1864-68 pair of hand illustrated envelope and front with contents from the correspondence of Edward Henry Corbould, artist and son of Henry Corbould (who's sketch of the Wyon city medal was used for the Penny Black). Edward similarly
followed his fathers footsteps and produced the "Britannia" design used for Mauritius, Barbados and Trinidad adhesives. Both items feature illustrations resembling Queen Victoria in the place of the stamp, one being a crude representation with his
initials at foot (1d. red at foot), the other with a more refined sketch of the queen and endorsed "local" and unfranked, (he often did that with private letters to avoid paying postage due to his supposed privileged status); very fine and scarce. (Image 1)
