NICARAGUA
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
5013 og,O   NICARAGUA STOCK WITH SOME POSTMARK INTEREST.100s of stamps, mostly mint, very disorganized and very interesting to study. Consisting of a range of classics specifically from 1862 through to 1880. As to be expected from an accumulation of this scope, there will be official reprints present and even a few forgeries, however the majority of the stamps here are originals in our opinion with highlights such as a group of #1, the 2 cts blues in different shades, then the #2 the 5cts black on yellowish paper unused, the 1869/71s with scarce original 5cts black mint etc, etc,. There is considerable interest in the postmarks also for the specialist to work on, for example octagonal numbers on 5cts perf, cds cancels in black and blue on roulette types etc. Specialist dealers or collectors of Nicaragua, make sure this is on your list of lots to view. 1,250-1,500

PARAGUAY
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
5016 og,O   imagePARAGUAY IMPRESSIVE COLLECTION.A last minute entry, a remarkable collection housed in a Scott album not only with Scott National pages, also with this collectors extra quadrille album pages specifically for material outside the box. Beginning with the vigilante lions issues with a range of 1870s including varieties, as well as surcharges both mint and used, also a section of clear misperfs or double perfs or even treble perfs, there is also occasional multiple format, both mint and used. Then the 1881 litho types including inscriptional blocks, partial imperfs, imperf between, horizontal imperfs, vertical imperfs, etc. The collection further unfolds with the 1880s onwards complete, creating immense interest with so much outside the box with material housed on the quadrille album pages which dominates the collection. For example, on the 1890 provisorio o/ps, eentavos for centavos, missing s in provisorio, concentric circle with numeral inverted o/ps, misplaced surcharges, unlisted perforations, etc, etc. This collector has also gone out of his way to list the position of different errors in the sheet, where these errors are known to occur. Similar studies, page after page on every conceivable issue, encyclopaedic in scope and really must be viewed to be appreciated. There must be several hundreds, perhaps thousands of stamps here, with the overwhelming majority written up such as the 1907/08 surcharges, with double o/ps, shifted o/ps, no bars o/ps, partially inverted o/ps, broken numbers, numbers omitted, virtually every which way conceivable with many multiples, as well as again their various positions in the sheet and much more. Time and space do not permit further description, it is a huge challenge to come to grips with this extraordinary collection of Paraguay stamps and errors, notwithstanding virtual completion on the regular stamps. Please study the photoplates to get a flavor of what is here as this an opportunity seldom available, offered intact as received. (Image1) 7,500-10,000

POLAND
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
5018 og,O   POLAND BETTER ASSORTMENT.A most interesting and specialized accumulation, housed in one well filled volume and a stack of stockcards, mint and used. This represents material that a collector hoarded with a particular preference for the 1919 September 15th overprint issues Scott #77 and #78 ($325 mint and $275 used). There are over 130 series mint and a dozen or so series used. The vast majority of all of these have been signed by Richter and others. We have been given to understand from the vendor that there is an expert of Poland that disagrees with Richter on these. Nevertheless while there is reference material present, this is definitely a fabulous holding not just of these issues but also other Poland as well, including postal stationery, non-Scott listed, back of the book, etc, that will delight the specialist. Please view this unhurriedly, the Richter signature is well respected and we have no doubt that this and the various other issues will have tremendous interest from dealers of this area. 5,000-7,500

PORTUGAL AND COLONIES
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
5019 og,O   imagePORTUGAL AND COLONIES SPECIALIZED COLLECTION.Many hundreds of items housed in one replete volume, the likes of which are hardly seen today in collection format, offered intact as received. Beginning with the Ceres types for Portugal herself with single proofs in mauve, yellow and pale green, pair proofs in red, followed by scarce triple composite proofs in grey, emerald green and dark blue. Also see unusual block of 4 missing denomination imperf. Then the Portuguese Colonies with an incredible block of 10 of the 2 cent composite colonies Angola, Guine, Lourenco Marques, Mozambique, Tete, Cabo Verde, Inhambane, Portuguese Congo, St Thomas and  ,Principe, Quelimane. This is followed by Angola proofs in different denominations from 1/4ct to 1e, with 28 different examples. Also present inverted o/ps, both country and denominations, broken top frames, unauthorised surcharges, various perf shifts, paquebot postmarks, as well as various Angola mint blocks of 4, freak perforations, imperf pairs etc. Also seen a study of the different perfs including combination types of Angola, again in mint multiple format. ,Then follows plate flaws on Cape Verde Inhambane, proof s of Lorenco Marques in triple composite form, yet further errors of the same through to the best part, the Macao with double composite proofs of the 4a carmine, 12a brown and 20a orange, also a triple composite 4a carmine #215 imperf (this gentleman paid $150 in Sept 1991 from George Alevizos), further scarce triple composites with the Macao lilac greyish 5a brown, 20a orange, 76a bister brown on pink back ground. Then Mozambique with pair proof composites of the 1c green, 2 c carmine, 5c indigo, 1e dark emerald, as well as a range of triple composite proofs. Also seen, further rare proofs of Mozambique&rsquo,s unadopted designs on the Ceres heads, imperf pairs, specimen overprints of 14 different values, frame breaks, cracked plates, missing printings,  ,dramatic dislocations of overprints, etc, etc. Also present a dramatic looking and very impressive block of the 16 emerald green with dramatic perf shift on left giving the impression of imperf between, as well as of course the usual mint blocks of 4 of the definitives, the collection continues with further great material with Portuguese Congo, Portuguese Guinea, die proofs of Portugues India with 18 different to high values 10rs carmine, also the scarce overprint #423 in a block of 6 mint, of which only one sheet is known, 5 of these 6 here are mint never hinged. Then follows Quelimane with further colored proofs, 16 different to high values, broken top frames, ending with St Thomas and further  ,amorphous material waiting to be incorporated into the collection, etc. Words cannot give adequacy for how impressive this collection is. There are many items that would be difficult if not impossible to find. Please study the photoplates to get a flavor of what is here, this is an opportunity hardly ever available on the market today.

PORTUGAL
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
5020 og,O   PORTUGAL EXTENSIVE COLLECTION.Providing you are not excessively condition conscious, this is an excellent well filled collection. The classics have some sidewalk margin examples, all housed in this Scott national album that is bursting at the seams. The first page sets the pace with over 60 imperforates from the 1853 Queen Maria II through to the King Luiz, hardly any empty spaces and often 2 or even occasionally 3 of an example, housed stamp on stamp. Some of the better numbers include #5, #6 with gum and large margins, some surface rubbing nevertheless definately not a reprint ($950), , #7 (x 2), #8, #9 (x 4 of which 2 are decent), #13 with 1 unused and 4 used including a sheet marginal example, #15 (x2), #16 (x4), #19 (x2), #21 (x2), #23 (x2), #24 (x3 cat $100 each), #24 (x3 cat $70). A similar pattern with the 1866/67 issues through the 1870 issues and finally the King Luiz 1879/80 issues with no empty spaces and often duplicates of higher values #26 (x2), #27 (unused x 1 and another one used) #29 (x2) cat $110 each, #30 (x3), cat $110 each, #31 through to #33 (x2) cat $475 each. All the other denominations from the various other issues are again well represented with for example 3 of the high value 1000 reis black etc. Then much 1880/81 issues, similarly the 1892/93 issues, the provisorio o/ps issues also strong, the Prince Henry issues complete, the scarce St Anthony issue complete used, although stuck down to page, nevertheless holding the album page to light there are no thins, so all of them should &lsquo, come up&rsquo, without any problems. The 20th century again well represented including virtually all the Ceres defins including the key denominations and high values, ie both #292 and #293, through to the 20E pale turquoise #298, the overprints complete on the Ceres as well. As far as we can see, all the good m/s of the 1940s are here, the stamps are clearly mint never hinged, however some of the sheets will need to have careful application applied on the edges as they are partially stuck to the page, everything present including all the good m/s, ie #594a, #602a,#614a,#637a,#641a,#649a,#657a,#661a,#667a,#670a (perfect mint never hinged in every respect), #682a again the series itself mint never hinged perfect, although the right hand corner margin of the m/s needs help, #674a,#701a etc. We saw no signs of tropicalization at all, front and reverse and the overall appearance of the 19th century is excellent , ,Please ignore all the pencil markings on the side, they are totally out of date, the collection will clearly catalog today a small fortune. This collection, almost two collections in one on the 19th century, is absolutely ideal for those looking for a sense of completion. A most impressive flick of all the album pages, our valuation reflecting the mixed condition. An opportunity for a dealer. 2,500-3,500

ROMANIA
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
5022 og,O   ROMANIA FASCINATING COLLECTION.This is a most delightful range of material of several 100s, if not 1000s of stamps, mint and used, with huge potential in the classics beginning with the first issues of Moldavia. There are a dozen of various different types of the Moldavian bulls with values inc 31pa through to 108pa, a good number of 54pa, 81pa, etc with red manusript cancels, black concentric circles with date stamps, red fancy cancels, black grid cancels, as well as at least 3 or 4 unused, most with reasonable margins, very interesting. This is followed by further imperfs, more likely genuine mostly used, through to further imperf issues of Moldavia, with oval franco cancels, straightlines, again black cds with datestamps with values from 5pa with values through to 80pa etc. Then the portrait issues with head looking to right, followed by the young king issues head looking to left, here again mostly genuine with tremendous potential when researched and written up, with dozens of these types covering the gamut, from good to indifferent. Next are the perforated issues through to the 80 bani and literally hundreds of further ,19th century denominations, all housed stamp on stamp making a challenging viewing. Also much good late 19th/early ,20th century including scarce pictorials through to an abundance of better semi-postals of the 1930s through WW2 and some, but not much post  ,1945. The holding finally ending with back of the book, early postage dues by the 100s, POs abroad, occupations, non-Scott listed etc. A really great lot that will absorb your time viewing,  ,there will be reference examples in the classics 5,000-7,500
