LIBERIA
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
4984 og/nh   LIBERIA MINT STOCK WITH USEFUL TOPICALS.Housed in several boxes with a few hundred well filled files, most of which have sub-files within them. There must be many tens of thousands of complete series here, covering the gamut of topics among the many hundreds of thousands (millions?) of mint stamps. The stock ranges broadly from the 1940s to 1990s and is completely without inventory. However the retail value would runs potentially into hundreds of thousands of dollars. Please note that in the presidential commems they are not in complete series and occasionally other commems the same. However the diverse topical range in complete mint series is quite extraordinary and will delight anybody who is interested in this country or of course a topical dealer. There is work to be done yet most files do have Scott numbering. A great opportunity. , 10,000-15,000

4985 og,O   LIBERIA ESTATE BALANCE.Due to packaging considerations and the chaotic presentation of a substantial balance of this large estate, this is highly recommended for those who like working hard breaking a lot down. This represents the used part of a large stock, it also includes much mint, varieties, errors and stuff that is all over the place. It is housed in files, sub-files, small boxes, albums, stockbooks, glassines, stacks of covers through to the 1990s. A very good substantial accumulation, viewing highly recommended. 5,000-7,500

5004 c   imageMONACO POSTAL HISTORY COLLECTION TO 1920s.

A quality valuable collection of several dozen items spanning pre-philatelic to the 1920s, organized in one well filled volume. There is a wonderful range of single frankings on the first Charles III issues of 1885 with two superb covers each on the 25cts green (#6), 40cts slate on rose (#7) and scarce 75cts black on rose (#8), with total Scott retail $3,800 on these six items alone and all in exceptional quality. Then the 1891/1921 Albert I issues with excellent commercial usages with highlights including the 1fr black on yellow single franking on a beautiful cover to Bavaria (#26, listed but unpriced in Scott for single franking), followed by a highly unusual mixed franking of five different Albert values to 15cts applied en route from Germany to Belgium on slightly battered 10pf red "Reichspost" letter card with additional stamps of Germany (placed to seal the card) and Belgium (on reverse), accompanied by cds cancels of 1898 from Germany, Monaco and Belgium - a genuine franking with manuscript cancels on the German and Monaco denominations and endorsement in the same hand (which may shed some light on this extraordinary usage). The Albert I frankings continue with tricolor 5cts green stationery envelope with 40cts and 50cts registered to Berlin 1896, another 1fr black on yellow with 2x 5cts green registered to Austria, the 25cts blue pair (#21) with interpanneau number 4 alone on registered and censored cover to Switzerland 1918, also the 25cts green (#20) single usage on illustrated cover of the Hotel Metropole, followed by attractive small philatelic cover with ten different values including both the 1fr and 5fr dark green, as well as a good range of 1891/1921 issues used to uprate postal stationery including "taxe reduite" surcharges. Among the latter is also the scarce surcharge on 15cts carmine envelope. Other good postal stationery includes the 1890 Charles III 15cts carmine on greenish blue envelope commercially uprated with Albert issues in 1914 to Germany, Prince Louis II 40cts blue postcard uprated with 25cts red on yellow interpanneau number 7 pair and 1928 Louis II 90cts red used to Milan, as well as Austria 10h pink used from Monaco in 1905 and 1925 1ct arms newspaper wrapper used to Kenya. Another good area is postage due covers, with first issues including 10cts rose (#J3), key 10cts brown on uprated Hungarian letter card (#J4), the 20cts bister strip of 3 (#J6), the 30cts blue (#J7) on two covers including registered from Tunisia, the 50cts brown x2 on redirected cover 1908 (#J9), 50cts green (#J10), as well as Rainer/Grace signatures on cover This is just an outline of this extraordinary and diverse accumulation of material, it should be studied unhurriedly as there is far more here than described. Please see the photoplates to get a flavor of what is here. (Image1) (Image2) (Image3)

MONTENEGRO
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
5005 og,O,c   imageMONTENEGRO EXCEPTIONAL COLLECTION.Although this was brought to us at the last moment as we were going to press, we were able to make photoplates of this wonderful 2 volume collection, mint and used, with many certificates. The first book is methodically organized.  ,Starting with the Prince Nicolas 1 with all perf types, represented from the early and middle peridos including multiples, as well as beautiful cancels in different colors, even a straightline Trieste cancel and highly unusual as such. From our investigation the collector has correctly identified the narrow and wide spacings in both mint and used. Furthermore he ordered it chronologically in keeping with the Scott system. Yet more issues continue including scarce postal history with the complete series of each denomination i.e. 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 25n, on a registered cover from Cettigne to Munich, philatelically inspired but rare. Also present combined stamp postal stationery covers and a mini correspondence to Otto Bickel, as well as various other destinations abroad. Further series continues with the 400 year anniversary overprints, again often in multiples and many varieties, not just in the perfs but also the o/ps with inverted, double, constant sheet varieties and much more. Also present unusual uncut newspaper wrappers for various different denominations in strips of four and this is all in the first volume. Certificates noted from Dr Jovan Velickovic seen for double o/ps, error year o/ps, sheet marginal imperfs and in the second volume primarily for the turn of the century, postage due imperf, 1905/1906 Prince Nikola double o/ps, as well as earlier certs for the monastery issues etc. In fact the varieties are quite extraordinary all the way through to Austrian Empire with Emperor Joseph with the Montenegro/Monteuogro in pair error, etc. There is so much present with some very visual material here. While the second book concentrates on the late 1890s onwards, especially for the varieties, it is the first book that is quite special. An opportunity not to be missed. (Image1) (Image2) (Image3)

5006 og,O   imageMONTENEGRO REVENUES COLLECTION. ,A most important collection of these scarce and elusive 19th/early 20th century back of the book, in our opinion far scarcer than the regular stamps. Highlights include the Prince Nicholas general revenues type series of 17 denominations, all categorized by the six different perforation varieties. Then the equally visual larger general revenues with 15 denominations of 1904, the 1907 50k mint and then the 1910 series of 9 nearly complete mint never hinged, as well as the 6p and 10p used etc. Further Prince Nicholas types, this time with the 1909 commemorative overprints, the new coat of arms design of 1912 including the Austrian occupations with 1916/18 "militar-verwaltung in Montenegro" overprints high and center both on issues with and without watermarks, leading on to the 1942 Governatorato del Montenegro lire surcharges on local issues for the Italian occupation. Also present are studies of the unissued types of Prince Nicholas in exile, WWI, with and without &lsquo,"free Montenegro overprints and the postage dues, as well as the 1905 "constitution overprints with many kinds of errors on singles and blocks of four, categorised by this collector, copiously detailing the different types. Page for page, stamp for stamp, this is a most well researched collection throughout. There is particular value in the 19th century with material here that would be very difficult to find again. A most enjoyable collection to view with the distinct possibility of unique items present, please study the photoplates.

5007 og,O,c   imageMOROCCO AND THE FOREIGN OFFICES IN MOROCCO OUTSTANDING COLLECTION.A lifetime&rsquo, work, this collector&rsquo,s collection of the stamps and postal history of all the French, Spanish, British and German post offices in Morocco, as well as an in depth range of local and private issues, accompanied by valuable postal history, all of which is written up on quadrille album pages, including very scarce French campaign and propaganda with political and racist, as well as other similar material seldom seen today, especially as an integrated collection with the postal history chronologically organized, campaign by campaign. The stamps with French o/ps with the "peace and commerce" having both top values 1fr and 2fr mint (#7/8), followed by further French Protectorate and the Tangier, both complete to 5fr Merson. Then the Spanish o/ps 1899/1903 on Alfonso XIII complete defins to 10pts mint, also the Spanish Protectorate in the Northern Zone of Morocco as well as Ifni, both different series again to 10pts mint, i.e. Marruecos diagonal o/p and then the triple diagonal o/p for the Protectorate. Also present under the Spanish Influence is very scarce Tetuan in both types. Then the British influence in Morocco with the British agencies on Gibraltar o/ps complete to 2 pesetas mint QV, followed by the Kaiser&rsquo,s o/ps for the German post offices in Morocco on the eagle Reichspost complete to 50pf, etc. Then follows an extensive and important range of local issues with well over 100 examples, beginning with the 1892 "postes locales" for Tangier/Fez, with the complete series of the palm tree from the 5cts to 5fr used. These are accompanied by the 1883/94 elaborate printings on the Spanish Military intervention into Melilla with the different colors, perf and imperf on the Spanish coat of arms types series of 6, then the smaller arms types with different designs, again the series of 6, as well as stamps for the Spanish Marines, the Cavalry and the 1st, ,2nd and ,3rd infantry of the army, even stamps for the divisions that ran the Forts in the Territories under Spanish influence , mint and used and methodically identified,. Also present the attractive soldier series of the ,19th century from the 5cts to the 1pta high value in different colors, as well as further local issues with overprints, even the private mailboat issues, both series, the first to 75cts and the second to 2 pts followed by various Mogador, etc. Then the postal history section of the collection revealing the important events, virtually all franked with stamps and a plethora of special campaign cancels. Beginning with the occupation of Oujda in April 1907 &ndash, extraordinary stuff here, further operational occupation markings, often fancy. Also seen specific postal history for the bombing of Casablanca of 1907 and the military takeover by the French in that area from 1907 to 1914, revealing how the French kept their influence occasionally by using tribal rivalry to support their own armies in specific regions. There are also occupations of Chaouia, Zaers and postal history reflecting some of the first dispatches from these occupation zones, similar occupations of 1909 against local uprisings in Haut Guir with a wide variety of postmarks such as purple straightline "Troupes d&rsquo, occupation du Haut Guir" and much more such as the 1911 occupation of Moyen Atlas Oriental, the taking of Meknes also in 1911 through to the abdication of Sultan Moulay Hafed in 1912, as well as the French forces entering Marrakesh, Mogador and Agadir in 1913, even Taza and Guercif, 1914 before the onslaught of WW1. Time and space do not permit a more detailed outline other than mentioning that there are about 150 items in the French postal history alone. There are many here that would sell for hundreds of dollars each.
