Alan Craig Private Collection of NZ Revenues & Postal Fiscals - May 18, 2024

Welcome to a Special Public Auction offering The Private Collection of New Zealand Revenues and Postal Fiscals of Alan Craig, a friend and well respected colleague. Alan very sadly passed away on March 12, just before the catalogue was finalised. Alan’s collection is in our opinion one of the most extensive ever formed and includes many rarities that he managed to acquire over his decades of collecting.

There are many items to highlight from the various sections:

  • Ad Valorem Section, Lot 1 A Vertical Mint Strip of the 1 1/2%,3% & 5% values (Est $1500), Lot 8 A Vertical Interpane with the 7% & 10% values Mint (Est $1250) and Lot 9 A complete Estate Duty Document with the 3% value tied (Est $1000).
  • The Beer Duty Section highlights include the 1878 & 1880 Series noting Lot 22 1880 7/- value used (Est $2500) and Lot 25 1880 9d value used (Est $2500). In Lot 31 1883 QV Set 6d to 13/- used (Est $3750) and lastly Lot 33 1908 KEVII 26/6 Maroon one of few examples known (Est $5000).
  • In the Denoting Section the highlights include Lot 49 12’6 Plum Arms (Est $1250), Lot 50 15/- Arms (Est $1250) and Lot 54 3d 1935 Pictorial an underrated rarity (Est $1250). Also Lot 61 KGVI Set includes the 3d Blue (Est $750).
  • The Fine Paid highlights are Lot 83 QV £10 Fiscal (Est $1500), Lot 97 QV 35/- Yellow (Est $2000), Lot 114 Arms £2.10s Red (Est $1250), Lot 123 35/- on 35/- Arms (Est $1000), Lot 132 Part Share Document with QV 35/- Yellow Pair tied (Est $3000), Lot 136 1935 8d Tuatara Perfined a Rare item (Est $2500) and Lot 148 KGVI Set includes the Rare 8d value (Est $2500).
  • In the Passport Fee Section the highlights are Lot 181 QV 2/- Blue (Est $1250), Lot 188 QV 4/- Orange-Brown (Est $1000) and Lot 195 Arms 4/- Red (Est $1000).

  • Postal Fiscals Section highlights include Lot 331 QV 1880 1/- Black Die Proof (Est $1250), Lot 33 QV Plate Proofs Range to £20 (Est $3750), Lot 342 1882 QV 4d,6d,8d,1/- NZ Watermark Used Set (Est $3000), Lot 362 1903 QV £100 Mauve Used (Est $4000), Lot 363 QV £30 Brown-Lake Used (Est $4000), and Lot 365 1907 QV £50 Grey Used (Est $4000).
  • In the Postal Fiscals Arms Section the highlights are Lot 400 £3.10s Rose on piece Used (Est $3000), Lot 402 £4.10s Grey Used (Est $2500), Lot 408 35/- Orange Yellow Mint (Est $5000), Lot 424 £20 on £20 Yellow & Blue (Est $2000).
  • Finally, the Miscellaneous Section highlights include Lot 442 1/- Green Full Face Queen endorsed for Fiscal Usage Mint (Est $2000) and Lot 453 1901/13 Collection of Discount Stamps includes 2x Die Proofs (Est $1000).
The Public Auction with live on line bidding will be held at our offices in Newmarket on Saturday May 18, commencing at 10am. LIVE ON LINE BIDDING will be available during this auction, with instructions on how to register and participate at www.aucklandcitystamps.co.nz.

Any bids sent by e-mail will be confirmed by us. If you do not get a confirmation please resend your email or contact the office.

There is a buyer’s premium of 15.5% on the hammer price for all successful Live Auction Bidders in with all other bidders paying a 12.5% Buyers Premium on the hammer price. GST will be added to the buyer’s premium only for New Zealand registered bidders. Please ensure you review the auction terms and conditions over the page before bidding.
