4790 og,O   GB AND COMMONWEALTH HOLDING.Housed in 2 well packed stamp albums, each page individually printed for the purpose of these books at the time, ie to serve as samples from QV onwards, beginning with GB/Australia through to Virgin Islands, revealing what would be inside typical approval books, this having been done in the 1970s. This is unusual since so much of these stamps on these large pages, 25 to a page one of a kind, are ,19th century/early ,20th century and many clearly today would be in the superior approval category. For example GB with a pair of 1841 2d blues with generous margins, further line engraved leading to QV 1887 10d mint with gum toning, 2/6d EDVII perfin, good used seahorses 2/6d and 5/-, KGVI to 10/- inc superb used 2/6d brown, through to back of the book, postage dues to 2/6d officers abroad, inc superb used EDVII ,12 pi on 2/6d purple, Levant seahorse 2/6d, followed by virtually A-Z British Commonwealth with several hundreds stamps here all one of a kind, Antigua silver wedding 1948, Australia from kangaroo #1 onwards through to OS perfins, Bahamas from QV onwards, Barbados from early tridents onwards, then useful ,19th century British Bechuanaland, British Guiana from ,19th century ships to silver wedding complete, better Brunei etc etc all the way through to Virgin Islands with good representations of many BC countries. Please study carefully page for page, much more here than described. 1,000-1,500

Then Federated Malay States with Johore, Kedah, Kelantan, Malacca, Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Trengganu, etc with an interesting range of various early definitives o/ps including better, as well as dozens of tigers, etc. A neat collection, well worth investigating for varieties, unappreciated at the time of collecting. 1,000-1,500

4792 og,O   BRITISH COMMONWEALTH GROUP PLUS SOME ADD'L WORLDWIDE.Interesting range of material, primarily British North America, with many thousands of stamps mint and used, stuffed to capacity in one large bulging stockbook, often presented stamp on stamp making viewing a challenge. Countries include Bahamas from QV onwards, Barbados tridents with at least 10 examples plus other QV, as well as large and small chariots of different shapes and sizes through to KGVI, Bermuda from QV onwards, similarly with British Honduras from the QV pence issues o/ps, just showing a little bit of each stamp through to KGVI etc. Also present, Dominica QV inc revenues, Jamaica with dozens of QV from pineapple wmks onwards, Cayman Islands from first issues, Leeward Islands almost impossible to view with several dozens stamps to shilling values from both QV and EDVII, even a range of Prince Edward Islands, St Lucia, St Vincent, Trinidad, Turks, etc. ,Please note that this represents the Americas rather than strictly BC and that ,1/3rd of the book has material from the Spanish Commonwealth, Netherlands Colonies in the Americas, as well as classic Haiti and even Hawaii. However in our opinion the majority of the interest is in the BC, completely uncataloged throughout all areas, huge potential when processed carefully over time, stamp for stamp. 1,000-1,500

BRITISH AFRICA
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
4798 og,O   BRITISH AFRICA (PARTICULARLY SOUTHERN REGION) REVENUES.A few 100s stamps here, occasionally with duplication yet nothing excessive. For example, with Orange Free State there are 2 x £,2, 3 x £,3 and 2 x £,10 EDVII, Transvaal with various values rectangular to £,5 including 3 of the £, values, as well as a lovely looking multiple with manuscript o/ps on lower denom , followed by various Cape of Good Hope, excellent Bechuanaland Protectorate o/ps with EDVII £,1 and £,5, similarly different font to £,1 EDVII, also scarce Swaziland o/ps with different fonts on EDVII on shilling values, as well as most unusual "Swaziland Revenue Only" o/ps on EDVII penny and 6d etc. Probably the best section is Griqualand with the long rectangular stamp with the young Victoria head through to £,5 and then with the Victoria young head profile to the left, the "G" o/ps including inverted o/p, various values to £,1, seldom seen. Then the  ,Transvaal section again with similar types as the Griqualand QV young head and also unusual imperforates, V.R. 6d and shilling values, as well as various other larger types including V.R.I o/ps on to EDVII and lots of different values through to large portraits to £,1, as well as unusual "Pass" o/ps  ,1/- and 2/-, even further V.R.I etc etc,  ,well worth investigation. Much of this is displayed stamp on stamp making this a challenging viewing and certainly there is huge potential here for discovery, not only on the more obvious high values, also on some of the lower denominations, requiring the use of a Barefoot. Please inspect allowing sufficient time to see the depth of this excellent revenue holding. 1,000-1,500

AFGHANISTAN
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
4801 og,O,c   AFGHANISTAN CAPTIVATING COLLECTION.Give to us as we were going to press, the postal history is housed in 1 volume and the stamps in the , 2nd volume. , This is an incredible range of these issues with much material that is highly specialized and seldom seen.  ,For example there are 16 covers, some with the stamps cut to shape, virtually all with an array of manuscript cancels, star cancels, cross cancels, sun ray cancels, etc on various different denominations of abasi through to high values. Virtually every cover here in its own right would make a good individual item, at a few hundred dollars each. The stamp side is also interesting, again there is much used with about 130 examples, including both mint and used multiples. There is also a wide variety of cancels of Afghani village and town markings in manuscript, not just the cut outs as to be expected. There is also a distinct possibility of rare cancels here for the expert to investigate, Afghani linguists will have a distinct advantage. An opportunity not to be missed. 5,000-7,500

Then there is a fascinating section of the occupied territories in Albania including scarce Greek occupation overprints of 1913 not listed in Barefoot, also present Skanderberg issues surcharged for use as revenues in the Prince William of Wied period 1914, followed by an excellent range of the "Albanien Oe. U. M. O." overprints of 1915 for the Austrian occupation, firstly across the top of o/ps for Montenegro in cyrillic on Turkish revenues, then on the 5pa brown Essad Pasha type, etc. There is also a French occupation local of 1916, followed by Austrian occupation material continuing with direct issues in heller/kroner denominations with "financial administration" in Albanian and Austrian with wide silhouetted eagle types to the 1.60kr purple and thinner, detailed eagles to 96h orange, through to surcharges of 1919. The regular national issues resume in 1920 with general revenues as well as consular fees, civil registration fees, judicial fees, mortgage tax, customs and excise, municipal stamps, etc, into the post-WWII years, with highlights including large red and black double-headed eagle types with various denominations and a good section on tobacco/cigarette issues with 1925 tobacco tax unused pair on laid paper, attractive tall designs for weights from 2g to 15g in various colors and a strip in gray for imported tobacco during the Italian occupation of 1914, etc, etc. A very interesting collection, particularly in the WWI material, with many scarce stamps present. ARGENTINA
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
4804   imageFORMIDABLE ARGENTINA REVENUES COLLECTION.Several 1000s of stamps here, housed in 3 substantial volumes, with much depth and specialization. The first book for the province of Buenos Aires with issues through to 1869 with values on the 1870 issues to the 100 pesos, similarly with the documentary issues, virtually all one of a kind with a methodical year by year representation from the late ,19th century onwards, quite remarkable in the way in which this collector has found so many different denominations and has carried this through to the ,20th century as well, with a year by year study neatly laid out with the different o/ps. Then the Argentina bills of exchange 1886 onwards including the sailboats of 1887 and many other attractive printings, such as for livestock types again on a year by year basis, followed by particularly attractive public health stamps of 1898 and 1899 with large rectangulars, through to the municipality issues and many more themes with values running through to 10,000 pesos and this is all in the first volume. There are general revenues for different areas such as Barracas Al Sud, Bahia Blanca, Bolivar all the way through to Villarvino , most impressive. Equally there are different studies for the various provinces, such as Catamarca, Chaco, Cordoba, etc, each province having its own categories, i.e. patents, produce duty, fines, etc, Corrientes was also visually very striking for the general revenue portrait issue, not just the 1882s also for the long rectangular types of 1884/95 and the large band revenues, again many different types, quite remarkable in its scope. A similar pattern happens for Entre Rios from the imperfs 1879 onwards, through to public analyst issues of 1893 very large type, on to La Rioja, Mendoza, particularly attractive mint, 1904s and high values to 50 pesos for the documentaries of that region, etc. ,More categories such as consular duties, insurance, exams, playing cards, cigarettes/ tobacco, court judgements, etc. virtually every conceivable fiscal function for Argentina and her varied regions are represented here including fascinating se-tenants. Outstanding in scope. Please study photoplates carefully to get a flavor of what is here. (Image1) (Image2) (Image3)
