JORDAN (TRANSJORDAN)
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
4765 og,O   imageSPECIALIZED JORDAN AND TRANSJORDAN COLLECTION.An important very specialized collection, both mint and used, with several 100s of these very tough to find stamps. Please note we have decided to re-house this stack of old quadrille album pages with the benefit of large transparencies on each page to protect the stamps, also making it considerably easier to view the collection. As a result, it is now housed in 2 well filled albums. The pages themselves are also well written up as at the time of the collecting, including all kinds of diagrams and different sheet settings with exquisite scholarship on the Arabic overprints. There are a tremendous number of varieties here. The collection, as formed in the late 1940s/1950s is absolutely loaded with multiples, often disclosing the various different positions of the overprints. There are even complete sheets present and of course their accompanying constant varieties, such as dropped numerals and missing letters, reversed albino inscriptions, overprints in different colors, overprints radically misplaced, different surcharges se-tenants, inverted as well as narrow overprints, tete-beche, double perforations, proofs etc. Where there is used in the collection, they are postally used. Furthermore, there is also a small reference section, again written-up which gives the viewer very useful comparison, clearly demonstrating that the overwhelming majority of this collection has been correctly annotated, researched and categorised as genuine and original. Just a few of the many examples seen are the 1924 (Jan) SG 114 reconstructed sheet of 36, the 1923 (Sept) SG 111a surcharge inverted pair mint, the 1923 issue in sheets, etc etc. In order to get a flavor of how good this is, please study the photoplates. Occasional toning as to be expected in a collection of this nature that does not detract from the overall impressive appearance of this lifetime&rsquo,s work. This is an opportunity very seldom available, an astonishing collection, quite irreplaceable and certainly the best we have ever seen of this then British Commonwealth country with many unique items. PALESTINE
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
4780 og,O   imageBRITISH PALESTINE IMPRESSIVE COLLECTION.A fabulous accumulation of well over several hundred predominantly mint never hinged stamps, representing material cherry-picked by a specialist collector from dozens of collections bought at auctions over many years. There is much material painstakingly identified, including many varieties not listed in Gibbons. This is a most impressive range with much in multiple format, pairs, blocks of four or even larger, dealing specifically with the British occupation of Palestine, especially the overprints for the Civil Administration under the British High Commissioner. The quality overall is excellent with the vast majority mint never hinged and has a good showing of key values. The overprints applied at Jerusalem including 32 of the 1921 5p deep purple perf 15x14 in two marginal singles, two pairs, two strips of 3, three strips of 4 and a left margin block of 9 all mint never hinged (SG#54) as well as a sheet of 99 of the same, allowing many comparisons of the different settings of the overprint, as well as being invaluable for determining the positions of the constant varieties. Similarly on the redrawn issues of 1922 with numerous multiples, for example a corner sheet block of 28 of the 2 piastres olive, including attractive gutter blocks again with many overprint varieties. There are also postage dues from the first series onwards including 1924 series in beautiful interpanneau strips of four mint never hinged for the 2m, 4m, 5m, 8m,13m and 5p, ,very seldom seen in this format. This leads on to the pictorials issued under the British Mandate to the League of Nations, again categorised by printings, including six superb used examples of the 1927 90m bister (SG.101) each with attractive cds postmarks. This description only gives a broad outline of what is here, it is material not described due to time constraints that deserves a Palestine specialist to view carefully, particularly the multiples. ,Please view unhurriedly page for page, needs a little work as it is occasionally disorganised. A most exciting lot for the Palestine collector or dealer, please study the photoplates to get a flavor of what is here. (Image1) (Image2)

4782 og,OT   ST. KITTS-NEVIS VICTORIA THROGH GEORGE V SPECIALIZED POSTMARKS COLLECTION.Very interesting material QV to KGV, the best of which is 3 superb used crown circles which this collector quotes from the Bessemer sale in 1963 (Harmer Rooke), here are the 3x 1d dull rose, cat normally at £,26, all crown circles "which during 1885 and 1886, there was a shortage of 6d stamps. Both 1/2d green and penny rose were postmarked crown circle paid stamp, raising the face value to 6d". Interestingly according to Gibbons the crowned circle postmark lists at £,600+ for the earlier examples  ,each and here are three of them, of course this represents part of the shortage of the 1885 6d stamps at the time. Other good areas inc different lozenge types for the island, i.e. A09 and AO12, then a different range of postmarks from the island including Anguilla, Basse-terre, Charlestown, Dieppe Bay, Gingerland through to Valley, etc. Much more here than described, well worth investigation by the specialist, a delight to view. 1,000-1,250
