Housed on old-fashioned quadrille album leaves, as well as stockcards, glassine envelopes, etc, this collection will delight the specialist. Much of the strength is in the classic issues of the Franz Josef types, with an extraordinary range of research covering the gamut from genuine to the various different types including Sperati, Earee, Fournier, etc, often subdivided into different types ie. postal stationery subsequently perforated, misaligned perforations, particularly strong on the lithographed 3kr green, even postal stationery fantasies as well as original culminating in very attractive large multiples 'used' of the 25kr high value. The 20th century also has a considerable study on large multiple format on the airmails first issues, and a particularly interesting range on Romanian occupation of Hungary, looking very interesting with huge potential here, ending up with those waiting to be categorised in French Occupation and much more, etc. Some of the postmarks noted here inc. Cassa, Ujvaros, Szathmar, Ruszpolyar, etc. Huge potential for further research among the many hundreds of stamps here, formed with an eye for detail.
This represents the 2nd portion of an important consignment, the other having been offered in the May sale, this is the safety deposit portion of a lifelong collector&rsquo,s estate, with everything housed in one box, replete with good material representing over 30 years of buying Iran in auction and privately. Occasionally it is chaotically presented not in any particular order chronologically, just as accumulated over the years. There is a range of Persian Lions with 19 different examples, of which 11 are used, including sheet marginal copies in this section, including the 1878 5k gold lion, four margins, with purple cancels, Scott#36 etc. This is followed by two pages of well over fifty imperf &lsquo, krans&rsquo, issues 1902/03 including the 5k on 5k ochre and blue, mint and used (Scott#308), then the 1902 Lions with 10kr dark blue and blue used pair (#256), as well as both types of the 50kr with type I unused and used x2 (Scott#257), also type II , used (Scott#290) followed by the Tomans high denominations for money orders with an interesting used range. Also seen a selection of thirty of the 1911 stagecoach overprints with mint and used, cataloging a few thousand dollars in this section alone. Another part with a few dozen important pages of a ,19th ,and ,20th ,century collection, again with much substance here. There are individual auction purchases which have been placed on stock cards with many valuable and important items such as the Meshed Provisionals, four different used stamps with the signature of the postmaster Victor Castaigne Scott #223/226 (Scott $2400+), as well as a selection of Shah Qajar issues inc. 1876 mint and superb used complete, plus ranges of 1879/70 issues including 5k blue and black mint (Scott#42) and 5s green and black unused (Scott#45), both with expertisation marks (Scott  ,$1,000+), followed by the 1881 and 1882 suns complete used, the 1882/84 Shah set again complete used including the 5cts '2 dots' error with unusual blue cancel, Scott #46/59, (Scott , $445), the 1885 and 1887 'officiel' surcharges complete used, plus mint 6c on 5s green and unused 6c on 10s. Scott #66/72, (Scott $460) etc. Another section with 1898 Shah Muzaffar-ed-din set complete mint (Scott #104/119) and the 1902 'provisoire' o/ps missing one insignificant value (#173/175,#177/188) (Scott $320+), leading on to 1899 violet ornament handstamp o/ps with two complete used sets, Scott #120/135 ($1600+). The ,20th ,century , strong with 1915 '1333' overprints complete mint, 6c with light crease and 10c with unobtrusive thin mentioned for accuracy's sake only, otherwise superb. Also Scott #543/549 the 1928 and 1929 airmail surcharges on revenue stamps complete, mint, Scott #C17/C12,C29/C33, through to more modern with the 1958/59 10d vermilion and 1962 1r orange in mint never hinged horizontal pairs imperf between, not listed in Scott, as well as the complete series of 1962 definitives mint (Scott #1209/1222), 1978/79 mint never hinged (#1961/72) and 1979 Revolution overprints mint never hinged (#2008/2018) etc, etc. There is much more here than described, as this at best is only an outline of the immense amount of good items, many of which would make individual photograph lots in their own right. As is standard with classic Persia there is the possibility of reference present, however this collector was old school with a good eye for what he wanted, he accumulated only quality. Ideal for the specialist, much fun here, certainly an opportunity to purchase a unique holding of so many scarce and difficult to find items. (Image)

Mostly mint 1910s/70s issues in stock sheets ,with some better incl 1935 Airmails, some errors and varieties, etc., some typical 1910s/20s forgeries, usual mixed condition, mostly F-VF.
A highly scholarly and informed collection of more than 350 forgeries, reprints, forged overprints and unissued stamps, from the classics through to the 20th century. The collection begins with several dozen lions originally assembled by a missionary at Isfahan in about 1920, subsequently expertised by Col. Napier and Mr. Beckton, specialists in Persia in the '20s, then extensively written-up by this collector who discovered them in an old auction lot with an original note of provenance. There are good-looking pairs and combinations on piece and many very dangerous forgeries clearly made from the original cliches. It would be interesting for a modern specialist to see if thier opinions matched those of Napier and Beckton. The collection continues with informative studies of the issues and overprints through the rest of the 19th century and on to the 1920s including 'officiel' surcharges, 'P.L.Teheran' o/ps, control marks, airpost forgeries and much more. An invaluable collection of reference material for the specialist.
