An attractive range of used classics from the Papal States with unusually good condition, from Scott #1, #2, #3 (and #3a), #4, #5 (and #5a), #6, #7 (and #7b), #8, #9, #10 (couple small thins) and #11. The latter high value signed, the 1sc by Brun, also every stamp here four margined. Scott retail for this complete series of 1852 is approaches over $5000. An opportunity to buy important stamps in overall excellent quality, well worth viewing, the stamps here are of a quality you hardly ever see so good.
Housed in an old fashioned album, very well filled, on quadrille album leaves with most pages having between 20 to 40 stamps each. The key to understanding why this is such an important collection is that it is all 'one of a kind', from different communities such as Bucine, Argentario, Montecatini, Montella, Montefestino, Montaldo Marche, Onano, Monte Baroccio, Montaldo di Castro, Orbetello, Osimo very impressive looking Campogalliano, Calenzano, Campagnamo, Marittina, Brigantini, Calatifmi, Caccamo, Calamonaci, Porto -Longone, Recanati, Rimini, Citta di Capua to name but a few. A quick count reveals just under 100 pages, (some are stuffed within the other) so about 2000/3000 stamps nearly ,all different, generally speaking with denominations from the 5cts to the 5lire, often in imperforate complete series. Most of these have been collected the traditional way, i.e. partially stuck to the page or heavy hinging, nevertheless most should come up when work applied. To find such a collection as this sets the standard for the rest and is a great opportunity for the specialist. We can find no reference to this in the Scott catalogs, however there is must be philatelic/literature there for the specialist to draw on, to bring this collection to world class exhibition level. This collection is an opportunity seldom offered.
A stack of Japan, mint and used, the best probably being the loose album leaves inc ,19th ,century silver wedding Kitasirakawa and Arisugawa, the turn of the century military review, as well as the 1905 postal services all complete. Virtually all of the commem sets inc coronation, peace issues, Meiji shrine, 1921 Kashima both Jingos, the Phoenix, 1927 UPU, the definitives are also well represented inc mint values of definitives color changes with both 50 sen, etc, followed by national parks virtually complete, leading on to post WW2 athletics all series complete, as well as the national parks, the personalities of 1949 complete, a good range of airposts, inc mint, etc, etc. Then follows a Minkus album with see all the classics genuine, the vendor having taken out the forgeries, the best being being the Goshawk 12sen and similarly 15sen, as well as Chrysanthemums, Belt and oval types with values through to 1yen. Then a ,20th ,century holding with more mint than used, as well as material waiting to be incorporated into the collection. Also present, quite a well filled stockbook of 100s with value particularly in the classics with extensive perforation studies - no doubt enjoyable and challenging for those seeking the unusual. However there is still a lot of work here to be done which is reflected in our valuation.
Attractive mint collection with issues ranging from 1941 to the 1970s housed on Scott album pages, with only a handful of empty spaces and condition far better than normally encountered. An excellent range of this period and a thoroughly recommended viewing, especially for dealers looking to replenish stocks inexpensively.
Last-minute arrival with ,six stockbooks ,as well as 1 stamp collection from the 19th century onwards, mint and used, with Kobans from 1876/1879 inc 50 sen, followed by definitives of the 1880s complete, leading on to 1908 and 1914 both Jingos complete and 20th century well filled to the 1950 again including definitives, as well as further commems etc. The 6 stockbooks housed 1000s of stamps from the 19th century including extensive perforation studies of those issues even the 1895 Military 5 sen in quantity etc, leading on to hundreds of modern mint and lastly very interesting , and colorful 19th century revenues 'back of the book'. Clearly some stockbooks are better than others. This is the holding of a collector who wanted to become a stamp dealer, it should be inspected carefully allowing sufficient time to see what is here.

Other good souvenir sheets include the lottery issues for 1951 and 1952 mint never hinged, etc. Much more here to view through to the modern era, this description only gives an outline. Completely uncataloged, please inspect carefully page for page.
An old time collection purely of classics, beginning with an impressive showing of more than a dozen dragons perf and imperf with some reference copies likely, yet with two unused dragons that are certainly genuine - 100m blue imperf and the 1/2s brown perf. There are also interesting syllabics to study, with Kobans and Chrysanthemums to 30s again needing further investigation, including wagtails and a clearly genuine 45 sen lake goshawk used, etc. A very interesting collection for the specialist to research, with great potential for further finds. Please inspect carefully. (Image)
A fascinating holding of 15 postal history items relating to naval and maritime mail, mostly franked with late 19th century/early 20th century chrysanthemum issues. The main part is a group of 8 covers all addressed to a Mr. Kawano, with most directed to the gunboat 'USS Machias' or the 'USS Wabash', including frankings from Nagasaki and Yokohama, as well as a wonderful cover bearing Straits Settlements 8cts ultra sent from Singapore originally to the Navy Department, then redirected to the Machias with 'Key West, Florida' handstamp in blue. Another cover from Yokohama, with contents, is similarly redirected from Norfolk Navy Yard, Virginia, to Key West with black '5cts charge to collect' and purple 'ctms - t' postage due handstamps, despite having 2s rose pair and 1s green making 5s franking on reverse. It should be mentioned that some of these covers are opened roughly at one side. The other 7 items are mostly connected with early 20th century German naval/maritime mail in Japan, including a 3s rose cover of 1912 to the Commander of the 'Emden' (later to wreak havoc on Allied shipping in the Indian Ocean) at Nagasaki and a 1 1/2s stationery card to a Lieutenant Heida on the famous armored cruiser 'Scharnhorst', with others from Kobe, Miyajima, etc, including illustrated postcards with one bearing attractive three color franking. A most eye appealing interesting group with much scarce and considerable potential. (Image)
