Fine strike of Post Office Amherstburgh” crown intaglio seal handstamp on folded cover to James Baby in York, manuscript 11d” rate, Fine and rare strike of this intaglio seal, these brass seals were supplied for sealing letters and packets to the Post Office Department, occasionally postal clerks used them as town markings, the addressee, James Baby, was a judge in Upper Canada and son of Jacques Baby and nephew of Francois Baby, likely written by Baby’s sister Suzanne, who married the founder of Amherstburgh, ex Sanderson (Image)
