Daniel F. Kelleher Auctions, LLC Sale - 786

The Michael Demski Collection of Canal Zone - August 16, 2023

Mike Demski was a life-long philatelist and decades-long member of the Canal Zone Study Group, where he shared his knowledge—and numerous finds—with his fellow collectors via articles published in the Canal Zone Philatelist.

He had a passion for Canal Zone postal history and one of his specializations was postal stationery. In this sale are examples of each of the Registry Envelopes printed for the Canal Zone, postal entire errors including frame- and vignette only, and mint and used examples of many of the early stationery issues—along with large lots of his duplicate material. There are 13 perforated “P” Official covers, including many one-of-a-kind uses and unique examples of Frijoles and Toro Point cancellations.

There is also a wide variety of uses of stamps including over 30 First Issue covers, Third Overprint covers, and a nice accumulation of overprinted US stamps. There are also a large number of cover lots including Airmails to foreign destinations, First Flights, modern postal history, SCADTA, and overprinted Panama issues. Whatever your Canal Zone collecting area, there will be lots that will be of interest.

This is one of the finest Canal Zone postal history collections to come up for sale in many years.
