531 og 10b image1904, 2c Map, rose, "L" of "CANAL" sideways (Scott 10b), position 6 in this right selvage part imprint block of 12 (position 68 on the sheet), full fresh original gum, lightly hinged, the adjacent stamp to the right and the two left corner stamps have hinge remnants, the other stamps are never hinged; light small corner crease at top left, Very Fine, This is the only Canal Zone overprinted stamp with a letter turned sideways. When the authorities noticed the error, they removed it from 920 sheets and destroyed the error stamps. 17 unused and four used are recorded, including one in a block of six.

ONLY 35 EXAMPLES OF THE INVERTED BAR & PANAMAS ARE RECORDED - HENCE AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE MULTIPLE.

Only two panes of 100 are believed to have been issued, and only 20 of those 200 would have had the 1.5mm spacing between the bar and the PANAMAs.
