 1796 (May 2nd) Folded Seaman's entire from Belfast to a serving mariner on board HMS "Regular" at Portsmouth sent at the military concession rate with manuscript "1" on the face, showing clear crisp red "BELFAST" alongside, with London
"MA/8/96" cds and horseshoe PLYMOUTH in black, cover somewhat tatty with tear, extremely rare; ex Jay.
Note: Sent in the first year of this Seaman military rate as per the Act for Ireland which was passed in March 1796.(Image 1)

to "16", intercepted by the Free Office who endorsed in black "date altered" and straight line "TREBLE POSTAGE" in red was applied, rated 1/- treble and initialled by the inspector, an important and extremely rare postal history rarity (DF No. 236).
