FINE AND RARE USE OF THE PROVISIONAL HANDSTAMP TO CANCEL THE 5-CENT PROVISIONAL STAMP.

There are approximately 12 to 15 covers known with the New Orleans 5c provisional cancelled by the double-circle datestamp, most dated between August and November 1861 and associated with river mail or Postmaster Riddell (Image)

VERY FINE STRIKE OF THIS RARE NEW ORLEANS PROVISIONAL HANDSTAMP.

The Crown survey records only six examples of the New Orleans 5c entire. While there exist more than six it remains an elusive Confederate Provisional.
