691 Sbl Image1c Post Office, Specimen Ovpt. (O47S). Bottom left corner imprint and plate no. 43 block of 30 with half arrow natural s.e. at right, comprising the bottom three rows from the left pane of the 200 subject sheet, very well centered for such a large multiple, minor bend top left corner

VERY FINE. A MOST IMPRESSIVE PLATE BLOCK OF 30 OF THE ONE-CENT POST OFFICE DEPARTMENT SPECIAL PRINTING.

Most Officials were printed from 100-subject sheets. The 1c Post Office was one of eight denominations across all departments printed from 200-subject sheets. This piece nicely demonstrates the format of the 200-subject sheet, which was divided by a knife between the left and right panes of 100.

The plate block is unpriced in Scott. In the few instances where Scott prices plate blocks for other 1c or 2c Special Printings, they generally apply a multiplier of 6-8 times the price of 12 singles. Applying that multiplier to this piece would yield a Scott Retail value of approximately $4,600.00 (Image)

Without gum as issued, nicely centered, Very Fine example of the only invert error among the Officials Special Printings, although the 1c Post Office stamps were printed from a 200-subject plate, the sheets were divided into panes of 100 before overprinting, therefore, only 100 of the inverted "Specimen" overprints could have been produced, and we do not know how many were sold, only a small fraction of the number printed has been located (Image)
