708 Sbl Image7c State, "Sepcimen" Error (O61Sa). Bottom left stamp in a block of four with three normal stamps, Positions 11-12/21-22 with selvage at left, without gum as issued, deep rich color

FINE AND EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 7-CENT STATE DEPARTMENT "SEPCIMEN" ERROR IN A BLOCK OF FOUR. FEWER THAN SEVEN SINGLES ARE KNOWN.

This is only the second example we have offered in more than 20 years of auctions and all Rarities sales since 1964. Robert Markovits recorded only six known (2004 Bennett sale). We are aware of only three other privately-owned examples: the Lewenthal/Sheriff, Markovits and Golden copies and there is one in the Miller collection (on extended loan by The New York Public Library to the Smithsonian National Postal Museum), although other collections no doubt contain a couple more examples.

With 1981 P.F. certificate (Image)
