VERY FINE. A RARE ERROR THAT IS ESPECIALLY DESIRABLE IN THIS SE-TENANT FORMAT.

FINE. A SCARCE EXAMPLE OF THE "CANAL" ONLY OVERPRINT ON THE 17-CENT SCOTT 91.

According to Canal Zone Stamps, this error occurred on one pane when the overprint was shifted downwards. It also occurred on one stamp due to a foldover, and is occasionally found on some shifted overprints from the bottom row of a sheet or sheets. There are perhaps a total of fifteen in existence, including at least one other with a trace of the word "Zone".

VERY FINE. THE FINER OF THE TWO KNOWN COMPLETE BOOKLETS.

According to Canal Zone Stamps, the 3c Lincoln was in production for only a short period of time before the switch was made to the 3c Washington stamp. Only one intact booklet and four panes are reported by the authors; the booklet offered here was apparently unknown to them.

1166   1924-31, Important Study Collection of United States Overprinted Issues (70-104). Mounted and fully-annotated study collection formed by Mr. Gibbs, comprising hundreds of stamps and approximately 90 covers, off-cover stamps include different printings, several with the scarce Antique (wrong) font, some Scott-listed errors including "Zone Canal", overprint shifts in singles and multiples, numerous plate blocks and booklet panes, covers include denominations through the 20c, largely Fine-Very Fine, replicating this holding would require many years and scouring small auctions and dealers' stocks for the large number of $50 to $250 items present in this wonderful balance, worth careful examination and aggressive bidding

Mounted and fully-annotated collection on pages, comprehensive representation of issues with many dozens of stamps and more than 200 covers, stamps include some varieties, a few plate blocks, booklet panes incl. two No. 115c with tab at bottom, covers include a wide range of commercial uses, mostly Fine-Very Fine, although the per-item value is modest, the large quantity of collectible and some scarce material gathered over decades by Mr. Gibbs makes this a very worthwhile lot, not only for the collector but also for the eBay reseller
