2521   ImageCOLOMBIA, Antioquia, 1896, 2p and 5p Eagle Coat of Arms, Centers Omitted (113-116 vars). The exceptional exhibit collection of 41 individual stamps and two pairs, all being the defective” stamps (without the center coat of arms in black) that were pressed into service when a shortage of the issued 2p and 5p stamps occurred, three beautifully presented exhibit pages containing the following: 2p Rose Red, five unused singles (Types 1-5) and six used with various cancels, 5p Orange, five unused singles (Types 1-5), an unused horizontal pair (the largest multiple recorded) and eight used stamps again with various town cancels, 5p Green, five unused singles (Types 1-5), unused vertical pair (largest vertical multiple recorded) and twelve used singles, many of the unused singles and pairs with original gum, small faults on several stamps, but many are also sound

VERY FINE APPEARANCE OR BETTER. A NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE GROUP TO REPLICATE. ONLY 400 OF THE TWO PESO ERROR” STAMPS WERE PRINTED AND ONLY 350 OF THE FIVE PESO, AND FAR FEWER EXIST TODAY.

Individually, these popular stamps often sell for $200-$300 each, or more, when offered at auction or on a retail basis. This does not take into account the presence of the two unique largest known multiples, as well as the rarity of many of the individual town cancellations.
