"R. Views Feb. 5, 1862" (Rio Vista, Cal.). Manuscript postmark and "X" cancel on 10c Yellow Green (68), deep shade, minor perf flaws from placement at top edge, on cover to a Mrs. Roxcynthia Knapp in Warsaw N.Y., enclosed letter datelined "Rio Vista Jan. 26th 1862" references dreadful flooding and the stoppage of the mails, letter restarts on Feb. 12 and states that the overland mails are again in operation, Very Fine, a rare town marking, "Old" Rio Vista (population approx. 150) was destroyed in January 1862 by the Sacramento River flooding referenced in this letter (Image)
