Full perforations on three sides, s.e. at bottom, tied by light strike of Macon Miss. circular datestamp on light yellow turned cover with U.S. 3c 1851 issue (11) inside, half of the 3c stamp peeled off, tied by Scooba Miss. circular datestamp, outside addressed back to Scooba Miss. with March 1865 docketing, some minor wear and few toned spots around Confederate stamp, otherwise Very Fine, the re-use of pre-war envelopes was commonly practiced in the Confederacy in response to paper shortages, however, examples of pre-war turned covers are scarce, and early uses with the U.S. 1851 Issue are rare, to find such an example with the perforated Archer & Daly stamp is true serendipity, an example with a sound 3c 1851 stamp realized $5,250 hammer in our sale of the Boshwit collection (Siegel sale 940, lot 440), with 2006 C.S.A. certificate (Image)
