Large margins to clear, cancelled by well-struck black grid, red "Boston 5cts. 17 Jun." integral-rate circular datestamp, used with Boston Mass., 1c Blue (3LB2), large margins to in at bottom where scissors-cut into design, tied by red crayon on blue folded letter to Woburn Mass., red "Paid" straightline handstamp, light vertical file fold does not affect stamps, the carrier stamp with some toning and long scissors-cut at bottom, cover with some overall soiling

FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE COMBINATION OF THE BOSTON CARRIER DEPARTMENT'S SECOND ISSUE AND THE 1847 ISSUE, WHICH OVERLAPPED IN USE FOR A VERY BRIEF PERIOD IN 1851. A COLORFUL AND VERY DESIRABLE 1847/CARRIER COVER. ONLY THREE ARE RECORDED.

According to notes by Elliott Perry, the second Boston carrier stamp, 3LB2, is known used as early as April 30, 1851. The 1847 Issue was demonetized after June 30, 1851. Therefore, the Boston 3LB2 stamp could be used with the 1847 Issue for a very brief period of two months, possibly three.
