1281 c ImageOverton & Co's City Mail, Office, 3 Broad Street. Red oval handstamp, red "PAID" straightline (used by both Pomeroy and Overton), ms. "paid 2c cts." and "Express" on undated folded letter to New York City street address, Very Fine, this cover without contents must have originated in upstate New York, carried by express and prepaid 2c for local delivery by City Mail Co. -- the "Paid" marking was first used by Pomeroy's Albany office, then by Overton on covers dated in early October 1844, the two companies had offices in the same building in Albany, and it seems certain that Overton inherited these devices when Pomeroy quit the mail business -- ex Schwartz (Image)
