1283 c Image(PEEKSKILL N.Y.) "Overton's Express Oct. 15th". Ms. marking and "Paid 6-1/4" express rate on Feb. 12, 1844 folded letter from Peekskill N.Y. to Quakertown N.J., carried to New York City where it entered U.S. mails with red "New York Oct. 15" circular datestamp and pen "10" collect rate (for 31 to 80 miles), express paid notation also crossed out, file fold and minor flap tear, Very Fine and interesting use, the 16-1/4c total paid was more than the regular mail rate would have been (12-1/2c for 81 to 150 miles) ex Schwartz (Image)

Aug. 2" (1845) circular datestamp with matching "10" rate for over 300 miles, on mostly complete folded cover to New York City street address, missing one flap and one internal page, otherwise Very Fine, sent after the Independent Mail companies were put out of business by the new postal law that took effect July 1, the City Mail local post continued to operate, this is an unusual from-the-mails cover, ex Schwartz (Image)
