678   imageFiji, 1939 (Sept. 9), Sura - Auckland Survey Flight & Oct. 21, First Flight Suva - Auckland via Tonga, a lovely pair of covers, the Sept. 9 survey cover bearing a special 2d postage rate, cancelled by one of two Suva c.d.s.'s, with New Zealand 1d Airmail added and cancelled by two strikes of "Auckland/12 SP 39/N.Z." double-ring c.d.s.'s, noted in manuscript upper left "Flying Boat 'Aotearoa' First Flight Fiji - N.Z."; Oct. 21 cover bears single 2d Fiji issue properly cancelled, with manuscript notation upper left "First Air Mail/Suva - Tonga - Auckland/R.M.A. Aotearoa"; no backstamps per censors, but the Oct. cover signed by the commander of the Aoteaora and has a manuscript arrival note on flap, Very Fine despite top opening nicks on Sept. 9 cover, 3200 pieces of mail were flown on these two flights combined, but the lack of backstamping makes positive identification difficult; these are two certain examples of rare covers.
