649 10 imageChina, 1925 (Sept. 12), China - Japan first airmail cover from flight by De Pinedo (Starr-Mills 10), franked by 3¢ on 4¢ Junk, cancelled Shanghai 12.9.25, with boxed violet "First Airmail/China-Japan" cachet; handstamped address of H.A. Truby on reverse; tip of flap has small red Chinese chop, plus a small stain either from the chop or from previous mounting, nevertheless a Very Fine cover, one of only 70 carried by de Pinedo on his Rome-Tokyo flight.

650 18 imageChina, 1929 (July 13), Canton - Shanghai Rignot & Arrachart Flight (Starr-Mills 18), striking cover, with three Junks (two cancelled Canton, one with Shanghai receiver cancel), large red "Vol Paris-Tokyo/Rignot-Arrachart/Section: Canton-Shanghai/Poste Aérienne Spéciale" cachet, along with black boxed chop and apparent signature (Chinese) in pencil, Very Fine, 300 covers with the special cachet were carried.

This was a special flight to honor the two famous French army aces. The flight left on schedule on the 13th, but bad weather forced it to return; mechanical trouble kept the plane on the ground on the 14th, with the flight actually occurring the 15th.
