2078   imagePort Townsend Wash. "Kicking Mule", on two 3¢ Plimpton entires (size 6 & 7), each uprated with an additional 3¢ Bank Note (207), each with a clear 1882 Port Townsend double circle datestamp, Jan 16 & Jul 16 to Seattle W.T.; the stamps each have a nice strike of the "Kicking Mule" (the Jan 16 in particular), while the indicia were canceled sideways and incompletely due to the embossed centers; both entires are damaged and the Jan 16 is reduced at left, still ra easonably nice pair of usages of this iconic fancy cancel.

Interestingly, the first cover is addressed to a Miss Amelia Roberts, the second to Mrs. Amelia Biondi, no doubt the same woman, whose marital status had changed within the ensuing six months.
