4667 c   SPANISH-AMERICAN WAR PERIOD POSTAL HISTORY AND COLLATERAL GROUP.An impressive array of about 50 items of postal history, housed in one large volume, from two related correspondences of 1898/99 from the Spanish American War. A fascinating primary source of information for the specialist/ historian or a museum. The vast majority of the letters are from a soldier to his other half and also his sister, both of whom were residing in the town of Toledo, Iowa. There also are some letters to his father and one or two others family members and friends. ,The contents are fascinating, reporting on the celebrations of the Cubans and also the gratitude of the Spanish Soldiers, giving the American soldiers buttons from their clothes since they will now get to go home to Spain! One letter describes the sailing into Havana harbor past the wreck of the Maine (and the subsequent blowing-up of the ship), yet another letter written entirely on banana leaves! The letters from Cuba have military post cancels on US stamps or Cuba surcharges with some again from the camps, these have been roughly opened at the side end of the envelope, yet in an original correspondence like this not of much concern. Viewing a must, however it should be mentioned that you could spend many hours simply studying through the correspondence and the accompanying collateral, so plan accordingly, a very interesting read. 1,000-1,500

4682 og,O   VERY MODERN UNITED STATES AND WORLDWIDE HOARD. ,Almost a toss of a coin to decide if this was to be a US or a worldwide lot, as the USA face alone is in excess of $5000 including much in good denominations i.e. 42cts in massive quantity . Ultimately, the value of the worldwide won out. We noticed swathes of face from other countries, such Singapore, Norway, Macau, Brazil , etc. other than the US, definitely coming to many thousands of dollars equivalent as well, all in the 2000s. There is of course much of the value in these new issues, however we would be remiss not to highlight that there is plenty of good older material here i.e. 20th century collections, glassines, etc to sort out, count and categorize, well worth spending time on. Please inspect, this is a money maker if you are lucky enough to buy within our valuation range. no photo 8,000-12,000
