4685 og,blL   imageHUGE CIVIL WAR STAMP AND COVER COLLECTION,consisting of 66 postally used Union Patriotics, various better Confederate covers and a group of 83 mint and used Confederate stamps. Union patriotics mostly franked with 3c rose and a few possible rose pinks, one cover has letter back home on patriotic stationary reporting troop movements and conditions on the front, along with a war souvenir from a destroyed church organ in one of the battles, another cover has an accompanying letter on patriotic stationary from a mother to a daughter, two letters with wonderful contents from 1863 Teekalet Washington Territory to a friend from James Gaddis who left Maine for Washington Territory to apparently avoid army service during the Civil War. On the Confederate side, there are a few pieces of currency, a 52XU3 faulty cover addressed to Richmond Virginia (Scott $4,000), a 58X2 tied to cover by Mobile, Ala postmark, tear and slight reduction at right and some wear to edges (Scott $2,000), 3c Nesbitt Confederate Official Envelope overprinted "Confederate States of America/POST OFFICE DEPARTMENT/OFFICIAL BUSINESS", unsigned and unlisted in Dietz variety, signed by Stanley Ashbrook on back stating "cover is genuine, an unlisted variety in Dietz - No 'in Chief of the Contract-Bureau'" below overprint, 11d tied by "Atlanta, Ga. to "Bank Agency Office." cover addressed to Tenn, 11c on homemade cover made from printed boarding school form addressed to Rev M.M. Marshall, Kittrell's Granville Co., North Carolina, 11 on turned cover addressed to Rev. M.M. Marshall, Kittrell's North Carolina, Dated June 15th, finally a group of 83 mint and used Confederate stamps with various shades and cancels including several no. 1s, with many F-VF. 4691 og,O   CANAL ZONE AND PHILIPPINES COLLECTION.A small but strong collection of both mint and used stamps, including a cover little postal history, mostly from Canal Zone and Philippines. Better items include the first Canal Zone handstamps of 1904 with the 2cts rose used on piece signed and another unused (#1), 5cts blue used on piece again signed (#2) and the 10cts yellow used (#3), then the o/ps on US issues 1904 complete mint except the 8cts which is followed by a range of the black Canal Zone overprints inc. 8cts surcharges, etc. Then the Philippines inc. first special delivery issue (#E1) mint and attractively centered, as well as several different issues of the Filipino revolutionary government. There is also some Puerto Rico in the form of a cover bearing a mixed franking of 1ct green Franklin with Porto Rico o/p and 2x 2cts Washington without o/ps, all tied by Mayaguez postmark of August 1901 to Bordeaux, France, with ship&rsquo,s name inscribed. Anyone interested in this are should put this on their list of lots to view , as varieties are probably present here to discover. 750-1,000

Easy to describe as this is Canal Zone, as far as we can see, nearly complete, beginning with the issues of 1904 to 1906 unused #1-#3 (Scott $1350) as mint, followed by the US administration issues #4-#8 mint (Scott $500), then a study of the 1904/06 1,2 and 8ct overprint on the map, mostly mint, a few unused with some better stamps here to research, the next page again complete with all the Balboa and Cordoba, as well as the Hurtado and the de Obaldias complete, this time most often used yet again with a substantial high cat, also ,the Balboa dock series complete, the 1924/25 complete series of 12 US overprint #70-#81 mixed mint and used with the top value mint, (min Scott $400), then the second series 1925/28 to the dollar on the US o/ps Scott #84/95 mostly used (Scott $300) and again everything thereafter including  ,all the good airmails sets, all the good officials and the postage dues inc #J1-J3 as well as further US o/ps, the good J15/J17, J18/J20 and much more. The surcharges are not often seen this extensive, with highlights including 3cts on 3m brown o/p types e and f both se-tenant used on piece (#180/181), the 3cts on 1ct violet mint with signatures (#196), then a range of the 5cts surcharges inc. 5cts on 1m used and another used on piece (#182), the 5cts on 2m used (#184) as well as 5cts on 5m with both types used (#188/189), followed by the surcharges on blue green newspaper stamps including the  ,3cts on 1m used on piece (#201) and the 5cts on 1m pair used on piece etc. Then the surcharges on US stamps complete mint etc, etc. While there may be reference items as usual with the Puerto Principe issues, the vast majority if not all here are genuine.
