Outstanding mint ,and used holding with the probability of thousands of bezirks from the various different districts and their respective regional numbers, quite encompassing in its scope, housed in one very substantial volume, mostly presented by their respective districts on dozens of cards on pages. An important feature is that the overwhelming majority are in modest quantities up to a dozen or so of each denomination, sometimes on piece sometimes on cover and when it is in mint, the multiples are often in blocks of four, as well as singles. The Bezirks representation here is one of the most significant we have ever had the pleasure to handle, it has extensive Berlin with lots of different districts, Wegeleben, Leipzig with the "dove of peace" high values mint & used, excellent Jena especially the "Hanover Exportmesse" overprints including covers, Amenau, Duisdan, Eiefeld, Finsterwald, Gera, Heldenay, Plauen, Poepness, Saalfeld, Tharandt through to Weimar, to name some. Overprints occur on the different definitives such as the numeral and oval, as well as dove of peace high value types all denominations of course present, other commems such as von Stephan, etc, with the overwhelming majority being contemporaneous cancels. Yet inevitably there will be reference here, however this is an old time original holding, highly recommended for the student looking for an incredible challenge to sort and categorise to better advantage - which will then transform its value. While offered as seen, there is no question that the strong likelihood is that the catalogue in Michel will run well into many tens of ,1,000s  ,of euro. An opportunity not to be missed for any dealer or collector in this area, please make sure this is on your list of lots to view.
Strong collection of over 500 stamps virtually all one of a kind mint never hinged, mostly from the first issues with many items bought individually over the years at auction, starting with a dozen polar bear parcel posts including 5o brown (#Q3) used, 15o violet (#Q5) used, 1930 70o violet (#Q7a) used, 1937 1k yellow (#Q11) mint never hinged, as well as used 1916/28 perf 11 1/2 ,1o olive green and 2o yellow still on auction cards. Then the 1938/46 first regular issue complete mint never hinged (#1/9), 1945 pictorials also complete mint never hinged with extra 2kr kayak and 5kr eider duck in attractive and unusual mint never hinged plate number pairs, the 1945 "Befreit" overprints complete mint (#19/27), followed by the 1950/60 Frederik and ship defins and surcharges on polar bears complete in mint never hinged condition (#28/40), etc. Virtually everything else is in the same tip-top quality, including of course the booklets. An excellent range with a good showing of polar bears in far better condition than usually encountered, please inspect carefully. Also present better material waiting to be incorporated into the collection, much more here than described.
An excellent and irreplaceable study of the 1891/98 coat of arms "palm tree" issues with around 1500 stamps, beautifully presented and well written-up on gold-edged quadrille pages in a large vintage album. The collection includes many proofs, specimen overprints of different kinds, errors and plenty of postal history throughout, with much material seldom seen. Highlights include the unique specimen overprints from the Natal UPU archive album for both the 1891 and 1892 types, the latter accompanied by BPA certificate, plus other UPU sample types including small o/ps on first series 1ct, 3cts, 5cts and 7cts and a large diagonal type on typographed 20cts brown and all values of the 1896 engraved series except the 3cts. The collection begins with an explanation of how the plates were produced, with scarce material from the production stages inc. small matrix plate of ten of the 2cts blue, followed by the regular issues inc. 7cts red mint block of six, covers inc. 2cts and 7cts pairs in 20cts registered franking to New York, imperfs inc. pairs on the 1ct, 2cts and two distinct shades of the 7cts, as well as 3cts gray pair imperf between and 7cts pair imperf vertically, followed by a page of further errors on the 1891s with extra perforation rows and pre-printing paper folds. Then the 1892 2cts on 3cts surcharge inc. inverted and double surcharges, pair with top surcharge double, strip of three with center stamp without surcharge, etc, leading on to the drooping leaves issues with highlights including 3cts green color trials, undenominated plate proof block of 15 in black on card, lots of imperf pairs and part perforate multiples on the 1892/95 and 1896 series, particularly 1896 5cts slate green block of four imperf vertically and block of six imperf horizontally on separate registered covers. Other good postal history includes 1ct (#32) blocks of 4 and 6 on cover making 10cts rate to Germany, 1ct, 2cts and 7cts (#32, 33, 36) three-color franking making single weight rate to New York, 30cts triple weight franking to Paris, 20cts brown (#37) block of ten on large cover front, etc. The collection also has the 1898 surcharges with many errors and a scarce usage of the 2cts on 20cts brown on cover combined with 1898 1ct (#46), 7cts (#50) and 20cts pair (#51) for rate to Le Havre. This wonderful collector's collection is a delight to view and describe, please see the photoplates to get a flavor, so much material here that is hardly ever available. , ,(photo) (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3) (Image 4)
A wonderful collection of the 1919 occupations and other overprints, both listed and not listed in Scott, as well as some elusive WWII matrerial, with well over 800 mostly mint stamps housed in hingeless mounts on album pages, with much never hinged. The collection is loaded with scarce issues including items seldom seen. Highlights in the Hungarian back of the book include French Occupations complete mint, Banat/Bacska virtually complete mint never hinged, similarly Baranya including the key 40f olive green Zita with black o/p signed twice, then the Romanian occupations with an extraordinary showing of the first Debrecen o/ps appearing to be complete mint never hinged except for the relatively unimportant 50f postage due and the 5k "magyar posta" (#2N58) which we have presumed to be a forgery. The otherwise complete run includes all the different color varieties on the o/ps, the scarce 5k and 10k "koztarsasag" issues, etc, virtually all in pristine never hinged quality. Then follows an extraordinary section of official and semi-official issues from the chaotic regions of Western Hungary during 1921, with 'felkelok' ("rebel") overprint series including colorful skull and crossbones, Northern Army uprising overprints including on Madonna and child high values, "folk - no, no, never!" with signatures. Then Sopron plebiscite o/ps to 10k, 1956 Sopron locals, etc, as well as a fascinating range of material from the short-lived state of Lajtabansag (German: Leitha-Banat) in existence from October 4th to November 5th 1921 before being absorbed into Austria, with series of 11 to 10kr, each backstamped "50% extra charge - central command" in black and additional o/p of eagle over cross in purple, plus a series of 11 pictorials and six postage dues printed specifically for the state, not listed in Scott, with the latter including used examples. Other Scott listed highlights include Fiume o/ps to 10kr parliament (handstamped) and postage dues, Czechoslovakia semi-postals "Posta Ceskoslovenska" o/ps inc. 1f and 70f "Turul" types (#B64, B70), 10k parliament (#B90), 20f dark brown "magyar posta" reaper (#B97), requiring expertisation though with a Scott retail over $20,000 if genuine. There will obviously be reference copies present so we advise the specialist dealer or collector to spend time viewing this carefully. The WWII Carpatho-Ukraine surcharges are also extremely interesting with many expertised examples, certainly well worth researching further in the specialised catalogs, as applies to so much in this important collection. A great opportunity to acquire an impressive range of highly unusual material that you may never see again, please study photoplates. (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3) (Image 4)
