542 og 96b image#96b, 1892 5c Green error of color, very well centered for this, very fine and rare, affixed to hand written letter from Dr. Carlos Carles on Director General de Correos y Telegrafos letter head dated February 20, 1893 and reading "Friend Casares, I am pleased to send you one of the last examples of the stamp you wanted to have for your distinguished wife. Esteemed greetings," also includes the official envelope in which the letter was sent, with boxed "Oficina de Clasificacion/20 Febr. 93" backstamp; only a single sheet of 100 was discovered, of these 37 were used at Buenos Aires before the error was noticed and the remaining 63 were returned to the Correo Central and were then distributed to various private persons; ex-Dale-Lichtenstein. 554 O 4a image#4a, 1885 ½p Black with lake "British Bechuanaland" overprint, an astoundingly rare used example of this very rare lake color overprint, bearing a clearly identifiable portion of a black Mafeking c.d.s., rich colors of both the stamp and overprint, attractive fine centering; the catalog values do not reflect the rarity of this used stamp being more (Stanley Gibbons) or less (Scott) the same as the mint examples which though rare are relatively common compared to the used; there are only three used examples of this stamp known, all from different towns, one is in the Royal collection of Queen Elizabeth II and another is in the collection of a South African collector purchased in the last few years, thus this is the only example available or likely to be in the foreseeable future; a great rarity of this African country; 2004 Philatelic Federation of Southern Africa certificate (S.G. #1a; £5,000) (Image) $5,000.00

556 O 27 image#27, 1888 "2d." surcharge in green on 2p Lilac, used, quite well centered, fresh color, portion of a numeral "555" in bars cancel of Vryburg, very faint diagonal crease at bottom left which is of little significance to this rarity as most of the few known are usually found with more serious flaws, fine and one of the more attractive examples available; originally a trial overprint, one sheet was put into use Vryburg and only a tiny number have survived; 1991 PF certificate (S.G. #23c; £4,000).
