1664 O 9 Image#9, 1867 10pa Lilac, single cancelled by Chanak Kile (Fort Chanak, Dardandelles) partial intaglio seal postmark in blue, stamp with insignificant corner creases; an extraordinarily rare postmark; 1962 Egypt Study Circle certificate.

So few of these postmarks are known both on and off cover, only two of these known on cover, coupled by the fact that they are often indistinguishable as impressions were not well made. It is assumed that intaglio seals were hand carved and used provisionally while awaiting the arrival of datestamps as known covers date to around the time of post office openings. (Image)
