VERY FINE. THE UNIQUE -2/3 BISECT COMMERCIAL USE OF THE COLOMBIA AIR POST SURCHARGE OF COLOMPHIL NO. 8. STATED BY GEBAUER AS "THE GREATEST FIND IN SCADTA STAMPS". A KEY EXHIBITION ITEM.

Remarkably, this commercial cover pays the correct 70c rate (50c plus -2/3 bisect of 30c) for up to 45 grams. Illustrated in Kessler on page 25 and Gebauer on page 49, along with the three other known bisects. See Lot 3083 for the 30c Rose bisect.

Roca & Co." corner card cover to Ocana, Costa Rica, violet boxed "Sellada y Iacrada por la Oficina de San Jose" (officially sealed) handstamp and San Jose Dec. 8 transit on reverse, cover with minor edge tears and nicks, top of stamp with tears in margin

FINE. THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THIS INVERTED SURCHAGE, ON OR OFF COVER. ESPECIALLY DESIRABLE USED ON A COMMERICIAL COVER TO COSTA RICA. AN IMPORTANT ITEM FOR A LARGE GOLD-MEDAL LEVEL EXHIBIT.

It is believed this cover, while in transit, was given directly to a pilot for delivery outside of the National postal system. This is the first public offering of this cover since a 1979 Robson Lowe (Bermuda) auction.

Particularly attractive and scarce in combination with the 1921 unsurcharged 30c Air Post.
