1428 PSE imagePOSTAL CARDS - ONE PENNY: 1908 1d red internal commercial/social usage with the message headed "Ioma 14.5.08", to Samarai with very fine strike of the scarce 'TAMATA ND/14MAY08/PAPUA' cds (Lee #74), reinforced corner at upper-right. Tamata was replaced by Ioma in mid-1905 but the Tamata markings continued in use until late-1911. This cds was never used before the relocation. The origin may be Kiriwina, the largest of the Trobriand Islands, where there were no post offices at the time. The writer comments on items broken in transit & non-delivery of other products. 1438 PSE imageREGISTRATION ENVELOPES: 1919 small format to prominent collector Fred Melville in London with light Moresby cds & red/white R label (damaged before being affixed), superb Melbourne transit backstamp. The envelope was first inserted upside-down in the typewriter & the inverted address was therefore erased, otherwise very fine & the earliest usage known to us. Ex 'Granville': sold at our auction of 29.7.1997 for $1485.
