1907 'Stamp Duty.' on Monocolours Perf 12½ 1d rose-pink upper-left corner block of 4 [1-2/6-7] the first unit with 'Samp Duty.'
Error SG F1c and all units with pronounced Overprint Double SG F1b (Barefoot #7a), well-centred, one tonespot in the margin at lower-left otherwise very fresh and lightly mounted, Cat £6800+ for four Double Overprint singles, plus a significant
premium for the 'Samp' error doubled (unlisted by Gibbons). A fantastic double error. Ex Jerry Blair (private sale) and Peter Troy: sold at our auction of 28.7.2009 for $7475 (Sale 149 Lot 2228). It is probable that there was only one sheet of 40
(5x8).
Previous issues were sheets of 30 (5x6). The new format required an overprinting forme of four rows each of five impressions, applied twice to the sheet of 40. Thus the 'Samp' Error occurred at both [Pos 1/1] and [Pos 4/1]. It was quickly repaired
and examples are rare and under-catalogued at £1400 (two per sheet) compared with the Double Overprint Cat £1700, of which at least half of one sheet (20 stamps) was issued. (Image1) (Image2)

1911 'Stamp Duty.' on Monocolours Perf 12½ 1d rose-pink vertical strip of 5 [17/22/27/32/37] with 'CA' Monogram, all with the
Overprint Misplaced 13mm Upwards resulting in [17] with the Overprint Twice, [22/27] both with Overprint Misplaced at Base, & [32/37] with the lower unit having the Overprint Omitted SG F1a (not listed by John Barefoot), all but the first unit
unmounted, Cat £4200+, for the lower pair + three normal singles. A marvellous piece from the only recorded sheet of 40 (5x8), and that is probably unique in this format. Ex Evan Gill (1971), Jerry Blair (private sale) and Peter Troy: sold for $6610.
Note that the first unit is significantly scarcer then the listed "double overprint", because only five examples can exist, which is also the case for the overprint omitted in pair with normal. For the listed Double Overprint, see Lots 313332 &
313361.
The new forme for overprinting the Monocolours was four rows each of five impressions, applied twice to the sheet of 40. On this sheet, the upper 20 units were correctly overprinted but the second application was Misplaced 13mm Too High, impinging on
the fourth row & leaving the last row without overprints. The sheet was owned by Evan Gill and split by Robson Lowe (Aust) in 1971. Tim Rybak's 'JBC' Monogram block of 6 (2x3) - two units with the Overprint Omitted - sold at our auction of23.5.2008
for $9775. This is a more significant item, as it includes two major errors: only five examples of each can exist. This is also the first time that this and the previous two lots have appeared at auction since the errors were first listed by Gibbons
in their 2010 edition. (Image1)
