1907-10 'Stamp Duty.' on Small 'PAPUA' trial overprinting from the original forme of 15 (5x3) - applied twice to each sheet of 30
of the Lithographed issues - with two full impressions on a piece of translucent magenta pelure paper (185x166mm), including No Stop after Duty [13], the space between the two impressions tapers from left to right and one impression is Inverted &
Misplaced resulting in ten Tete-Beche Pairs, tonespot at centre-left, some wrinkling and creasing typical of this flimsy paper. A rare & fascinating proof. Peter Troy had only a much smaller piece with six complete & six partial overprints - and no
tete-beche units - that sold in 2009 for $390. (Image1)

1910 'Stamp Duty.' on Large 'PAPUA' 6d black & myrtle-green SG 80 with typed 'STAMP/DUTY' (dropped 'D'), 'PORT
MORESBY/20DEC10/PAPUA' cds is clearly over the typescript. Presumably an authorised provisional but not recorded by John Barefoot, absent from all the major collections we have offered, and the only example known to us. We doubt if anyone would
provide a certificate of authenticity so necessarily offered 'as is'. John Barefoot does not record the Large 'PAPUA' 6d with 'Stamp Duty.' Overprint. (Image1) (Image2)

from the base of the sheet, the Overprinting Forme Misplaced resulting in Overprints in the Margin, well-centred, characteristic rough perfs, hinge remainder on the upper units, the lower units are unmounted, Cat £500++, for fiscally used singles. A
rare multiple. Ex Arthur Hind (noted on the hinge remainder), Colonel Harrie Evans - sold in 2001 for $1980 - and Peter Troy: sold for $2300 (Sale 149 Lot 2222). [EA Barnett, in a letter to the Australian Stamp Monthly (Nov 1934), stated that the
forme was incorrectly overprinted on three sheets] (Image1) (Image2)
