 1906 Large 'Papua.' Overprints Rosettes Watermark Vertical Thick Paper Line Perf 14 2/6d black & brown SG 28, quite well-centred,
just the faintest trace of a tiny aging mark on the upper-right perf tip, tiny hinge remainder, Cat £19,000. An excellent example of this rare stamp: Peter Troy had recorded only 15 mint examples. Sir Gawaine Baillie's example sold in 2007 for £5250;
Tim Rybak's better-centred example sold in 2008 for $16,675; Peter Troy's less well-centred example sold in 2008 for $8625 (all while catalogued at £8500, less than half the current price). BPA Certificate (1994) as the then SG 29b. (Image1) (Image2)

characteristic Streaky Matt Gum, quite well-centred, very small hinge remainder, Cat £5500 (2023). Gibbons has inexplicably deleted this listing in the 2024 & 2025 editions, although the footnote under SG 45a still states that "Nos 34a 35b and 41a
derive from small quantities of sheets from the original thick paper printings (in bright shades) which were still available at Port Moresby and were then included in the stock sent to Brisbane for overprinting". SG 35b has similarly been deleted,

(5x6) with Printers' Guideline Crosses in the margins and Colour Dot in Lower Frame below Right Leaves [Pos 14], generally quite well-centred, a few stamps with minor marks on the gum & the stamps in the second row with a minor horizontal gum bend,
some hinge remainders in the margins & two units in the upper row with perf reinforcing otherwise the stamps all unmounted, Cat £1650+ for mounted singles plus a significant premium for the varieties & complete sheet. Very few complete sheets of any

(Reading Down) SG 37a, exceptionally well-centred, a little aged as is often the case with this stamp, characteristic slight gum bend, very lightly mounted, guarantee signature & small 'BM' handstamp on reverse, Cat £7500. Rare and especially so with

Vertical (Reading Down) SG 37a vertical pair with two complete impressions of the overprint across both units at left & right plus two further small-part impressions at the top of the upper unit, well-centred, facially very fresh, the upper unit with
a small hinge remainders & a few small aging marks on the gum, the lower unit lightly mounted with a characteristic slight gum bend, Cat £15,000+ for singles. RPSL Certificate (1963) as the then SG 37b. Ex 'Dr Gyp' (Perrazzo). Rare: only one sheet of
30 was affected. This is believed to be the largest multiple known of this error, and the upper unit unique in that it is the only one to show parts of four separate impressions of the overprint. (Image1) (Image2)

30 (5x6) with Printers' Guideline Crosses in the margins and White Leaves at Right [Pos 20] & Unshaded Leaves at Left [Pos 28] additionally with the Overprint Progressively Misplaced to Right on the right-hand two columns and the units in the
second-from-left & centre columns all with Kiss Prints (or Double Prints SG 38a; £2500 each) ranging from the barely-visible to the clearly-pronounced on [Pos 3, 7, 12, 17 & 23], some perf reinforcing and a few light aging marks, without gum.
Submitted to Chris Ceremuga for expertising.
Presumably caused by missing or broken positioning pins, which either led to the overprint form 'bouncing' or not being struck properly on the first pass requiring a second strike. All examples of Double Prints we have seen have two almost coincident
impressions. In their unpublished work Peter Troy & Jerry Blair note "Few examples known". Sir Gawaine Baillie's 'Double Print' single sold in 2007 for £3450; Peter Troy's single sold in 2008 for $3450 (when catalogued at £2750; it reached £4250 in
the 2023 edition, only to be cut back to the current £2500 the following year). A remarkable truly 'one of a kind' sheet. (Image1) (Image2)

Reading Up SG 39a marginal vertical strip of 4 from base of the sheet with three complete impressions of the overprint, the three upper units with 'PORT MORESBY/10JUL08/PAPUA' cds cancels, the lower unit unused without gum, a little light
tropicalisation, Cat £21,500+ for singles. Believed to be the largest multiple known of this error. BPA Certificate (1976) as the then SG 41a.
Two sheets of 30 were affected. Croaker cites a description of a complete sheet as having 16 of 30 units with a complete overprint - as is the case here for the upper unit. On the pattern evident here, only 15 units would have a complete overprint,
so this item may be from the other sheet. Many examples have the overprint under-inked, which is often referred to as "light grey". This strip has well-inked overprints, the visual appeal being much greater. Purchased in February 2006 for $14,950. A
used marginal horizontal pair - also with three complete impressions of the overprint - sold at our auction of 22.4.2006 for $8050. A used vertical pair with two complete overprints sold at our auction of 25.3.2011 for $8338. (Image1) (Image2)
