"p Great Britain/via Liverpool' with Emblems 2d + Shilling Octagonal, superb strike of the rare 'PAID 22AU57/LIVERPOOL/SHIP' transit in red on the face (used for one day only, & stated to be the only recorded example from Australia to America), some
soiling & repairs; 4) 1869 cover with Laureate 6d to London from where redirected to "Troy/New York" with 'NEW YORK/JUL/17/US 22 NOTES' depreciated currency cds; and 5) 1871 (Jan 3) cover to Vermont (a rare destination) "via Southampton" with London

1859 (Nov 21) entire to "Philadelphia/Pennsylvania" with the lengthy letter headed "Running Creek Saw Mills near Melbourne" and
signed "Thos B Swift", Queen-on-Throne Rouletted 6d pair with faint BN '1' of Melbourne (backstamp of DE1/59) & tied by 'STEAMSHIP/ 10 ' handstamp of New York, minor blemishes. Ex Dale Forster who concluded that it was carried trans-Pacific to
Panama, across the isthmus by rail, then by ship to New York: a rare routing. [We have never encountered the Running Creek Saw Mill and online searches were fruitless. The letter indicates it was located at Kew, about 5km E of Melbourne] (Image1) (Image2)

1854-1884 Penny Issues all with the Double Tail Re-Entry that presented on [Pos R10/2 R2/8 & R9/10] comprising Penny Black all 3
[R10/2 with 3½ margins], [R2/8 with three very close margins & scarce void-grid cancel in red] and [R9/10, margins clear to good], 1861 Perf 14 [R10/2] & Very Rough Perf all 3, No Wmk all 3, 1864-79 Perf 12½ [R2/8 & 9/10], 1876-81 CC Perf 14 [R10/2 &
2/8], 1882-85 CA [R10/2] x3, [R2/8] & [R9/10] x3, and 1884 '½' on 1d [R9/10], Cat £1500+ for normal stamps. A difficult group to assemble.
An obvious & important variety that occurred on every Penny printing for three decades. In our opinion, the Double Tail Re-Entries, which are clear to the naked eye, and among the most obvious of all Perkins Bacon re-entries, should be listed by
Stanley Gibbons.
