1573 c image1954 (March 10) Lutheran Mission New Guinea, Mission Supply House, Madang TNG envelope airmail to West Germany with Pictorials 2/- Masks solo tied by 'LAE' cds, very fine boxed 'SALVAGED MAIL/AIRCRAFT CRASH/SINGAPORE 13.3.1954' handstamp in red on face, unusually fine for mail from this crash. Carried on the ill-fated BOAC Constellation which crashed into a seawall attempting to land at Kallang Airport on 13.3.1954 and caught fire: 33 of the 40 passengers and crew were killed.

1575 c image1965 (Sep 22) Montgomery Ward commercial airmail cover from a missionary, to Illinois with rare franking of 4/- Canoe Prow tied by superb 'GOROKA' cds, red & black/white R label, Sydney transit & Chicago arrival b/s of SEP/27/1965, minor blemishes. The only example we have seen on cover. The rate was 2/- airmail plus 2/- registration fee.

1576 c image1967 (April 12) airmail to "Jerusalem/Jordan" with Flowers 5c & 10c pair tied by very fine strike of 'H.M.A.S. TARANGAU/LOMBRUM, N.G' cds and two partial strikes alongside, 'AMMAN/19APR67' transit and '20APR67/JERUSALEM' arrival backstamps. The rate was 25c Zone 5 airmail letter. The Royal Australian Navy Station 'HMAS Tarangau' was located on Los Negros Island immediately adjacent to Manus Island in the Admirality Islands. A wonderful 'modern' origin/destination item.

1577 c image1969 (April 24) inwards airmail from Great Britain with QEII Machin 1/6d blue solo tied by Hampstead 'ANTIQUES FAIR' slogan cancel, taxed with 'T/["6"]/9' boxed handstamp, on arrival Butterflies 3c Marpesia pair affixed alongside on face tied by 'GOROKA/29AP69/T.P.&N.G.' cds. The use of Postal Charges to account for postage due was discontinued on 12.2.1966, ordinary postage stamps being used for the purpose thereafter.

1578 PSE imagePOSTAL STATIONERY: 1959 (Nov 13) usage of Registration Envelope 1/7d red (ACSC PNG3) to Australia with 'PORT MORESBY' cds and red & black R label on face, Melbourne & Geelong backstamps, Cat $500 (2450 printed only). The rate was 4d letter plus 1/3d registration fee, which increased to 5d & 2/- respectively on 1.12.1959.

1580 c imageGERMAN NEW GUINEA: 'S.M.S. Moewe' German Navy supply ship postcard by Verlag von Schulze Sydney inscribed 'POST CARD' & 'POSTKARTE', to Herbertshohe with Germany 5pf tied by faint 'DEUTSCHE SEEPOST ...' cds. Stated to be the only known Golden Age postcard of a German Navy ship produced in Australia (note the altered spelling of the ship's name which in German is rendered as 'Möve'). It is likely that the ship was in Sydney as part of Federation celebrations, and that the card was printed during its visit.
