1943 (May 11) usage of a watercolour hand-illustrated envelope depicting an Australian solidier with a local beauty, to Sandringham (Vic) with Australia KGVI 3d brown tied by Royal Australian Air Force 'A.F.P.O./No 201' cds used at Ward's Field, Port Moresby, a couple of minor blemishes. The addressee "Mrs F Collas" was the wife of Australian solider, postal historian & author Phil Collas, and we presume the illustration is his work.

1945 (Sept 17) usage of a pen & ink hand-illustrated envelope depicting a native postal runner cartoon captioned "Cec's Express Delivery", to Toorak (Vic) with Australia KGVI 3d brown tied by 'AUST F.P.O./187' cds used at ANZAC Beach, Torokina, Bougainville, a couple of minor blemishes. The enclosed three-page letter on Salvation Army ACF YMCA stationery is headed from serviceman "VX 133558, Sullivan IV/20 Aust Indep Pro Rt/11 Aust Inf Bde", a member of the 20th Motor Regiment serving with the 11th Brigade, which was the only Militia (Reserve) unit deployed outside Australia during WWII.

1945 Japanese Surrender two official photographs showing Japanese Officers at the Surrender Ceremony on the deck of the British Aircraft Carrier HMS 'Glory', and a Japanese Officer below deck, each with 'Suitable for Transmission through the Post (not for publication)' handstamps on the reverse. On 6.9.1945, Lieutenant General Vernon Sturdee officially accepted the surrender on board the HMS 'Glory', anchored off Rabaul in St George's Channel between New Britain and New Ireland. (2)

The rate was 4/- per ½oz airmail (the pre-war 'Clipper' rate was re-introduced when the post-war service re-commenced in March 1946) + 3d registration. The rate was reduced to 1/6d per ½oz from 1.6.1947.

1952 (July 5) usage of Apsley Air Letter 'Malaya No.20' formular aerogramme to Germany with KGVI Definitives ½d Kangaroo, 2d green, 2d purple & 2½d brown tied 'PORT MORESBY' cds, lengthy personal typed message in German incluses "... all this [the Aerogramme usage] is highly unofficial, but the people here are not so exact ..." [translated], minor blemishes. The Aerogramme rate was 10d each. Australian aerogrammes were available for use in PNG; the first PNG Aerogramme was issued on 17.4.1953.

1952 (Oct 9) airmail to Germany with scarce solo franking of Kangaroos 2/- maroon tied by 'RABAUL' cds. The Europe airmail letter rate was increased from 1/6d per ½oz to 2/- per ½oz from 1.8.1952, and Australian stamps were withdrawn from use with the issue of the first Papua New Guinea stamps on 30.10.1952. Accordingly, there was only a short three-month window for usage of Australian stamps to pay the increased 2/- rate.

1946 (Jan 10) Salvation Army/ACF/YMCA Comfort Funds envelope unfranked to New Zealand with largely very fine strike of New Zealand Air Force 'R.N.Z.A.F./D./N.Z.A.P.O.' cds used at Torokina, Bougainville Island. The PPS Handbook states that this canceller is recorded used until February 1946 only. No civilian Post Office opened at Torokina: the 'BUKA PASSAGE' cds was used there for a week from 21.8.1946 until the Sohano PO opened and it was transferred there.

1949 (March 7) unstamped envelope endorsed "NATIVE MAIL" with very fine 'BUKA PASSAGE' cds, to "Methodist Mission/Koan/Buin/Bougainville", minor aging marks. Roger Lee states that mail for the native population was carried free for some years after WWII as a gesture of goodwill for their loyalty.
