673 c imagePOSTAL HISTORY: 1912 (June 12) 'Flugpost am Rhein u Main' postcard to Australia with Airmail 10pf Duck and Germania 10pf both tied by 'Flugpost am Rhein u am Main/Darmstadt/*' cds. Addressed to the Government Geologist at Launceston, Tasmania, the personal message refers to German bank concessions in Nyasaland. The rate was 10pf foreign postcard rate + 10pf airmail surcharge for carriage by either the pioneer Zeppelin airship 'Schwaben' or the aeroplane 'Gelber Hund', raising the possibility that - in addition to being the only recorded example to Australia - this may also be the earliest Zeppelin-flown item known to Australia.
