1884 Surcharge '½' in Red on 1d yellow-ochre with the Surcharge Inverted, well centred, a little aged, 15-bar '6' cancel of Guidford clearly across the surcharge. A great Colonial rarity that is unlisted by
Gibbons & is the only recorded example. Ex Brian Pope who states that it was discovered in 1989 but may be the stamp known to have been exhibited at Melbourne in 1894 by Joseph Davis. He also states, rather peculiarly, that the stamp "fails all the
tests for a forgery"!

1885-93 De La Rue ½d grey-green SG 94 Interpanneau Block of 4 with Stamp-Size Gutter from the base of the sheet, unmounted. Superb. Ex Brian Pope, who states that interpanneau pieces are rare because the 240-on
sheets (four panes of 60 with two narrow gutters & a wide central gutter) were divided centrally to provide counter-sheets of 120 (two panes of 60 with narrow gutters). Note also that such pieces cannot exist in the Crown/A printings.

1905-12 Crown/A ½d grey-green as SG 138 but Imperforate at Base from the lower row of an upper pane ACSC W4b, a few tonespots, machine cancellation, Cat $2000. The ACSC states that five (used) examples have been
recorded, of which this is the only single stamp in private hands. Another example, uprating a Letter Card - not a "postcard" as stated in the ACSC - is in a Melbourne collection. Three unused examples (one defective) are now known: Gary Diffen's
example sold for £1320.

1905-12 Crown/A ½d grey-green SG 138 upper-left corner block of 4 with Plate Number '1' ACSC W4z, minor bends, unmounted. Ex Brian Pope who states that this is the only recorded plate number block from a left-hand
position, and that it is probably from a "trial sheet". The ACSC lists all four corners with Plate Number '1', and all priced at only $60. This block is offered with a very conservative estimate to help establish a market valuation. ACSC W4zb should
have the price replaced with a dash (for unknown).
