A very specialiszed holding of around 1000 mostly mint stamps housed in one large volume, well organized by Scott numbers through the German and Lithuanian occupations and including varieties and errors, listed as well as not listed in Scott. Then the 1920 surcharges inc a pane of 25 60pf on 40cts showing wide space between "6" and "0", the 3mk on 2fr orange used x2 (Sc#30) and 20mk on 5fr mint and used (Sc#33), followed by 1922 surcharges with the 20pf on 20cts and 20pf on 25cts used (Sc#54/55), 50mk on 2fr used on piece (Sc#90), etc, leading on to good airposts inc. #C1 mint x6 and used, 3mk on 60cts violet mint, signed (Sc#C18) and 1922 horizontal "flugpost" o/ps complete used (Sc#C20/C29). Also seen the section on the Scott listed varieties, with highlights including thick figure "4" mint signed twice (Sc#31a), the first three inverted surcharges on 1921/22 sowers mint, signed multiple times followed by (Sc#43a/45a), "mark" double on 1922/23 10m on 10pf on 10cts mint (Sc#93a) signed, thick "4" on airpost #C5 mint (Sc#C5a) and errors on Lithuania occs inc. double surcharges on thick figures 50cts on 1000m and 1L on 1000m, both mint and signed (Sc#N68a/N69a), etc. Among the varieties not listed in Scott are the missing "K" in Klaipeda on Kaunas printing 25m on 5cts listed in Michel and imperfed ungummed proofs, listed but not priced in Michel. 5764 c   imageMEXICO EXCEPTIONAL 19TH CENTURY POSTAL HISTORY COLLECTION.

An important holding especially for the cancelations on cover, in two large volumes, with over 300 covers. The postmarks run alphabetically from Abasolo to Zacatecas with the examples for each village/town chronologically organised, all the way through to the Hidalgos of the 1870s. It is very difficult to choose highlights here, the standard is so high throughout. We note Abrego straight-line cancels to the same addressee, superb blue Acatlan (Puebla) and Franco box cancels on 1861 2r, Aguascalientes box cancel on 1864/66 eagles, exceptional Angamacutiro ornamented straight line on 1856 2r green, Celaya and Cerrocordo red cancels on stampless covers, beautiful Chacaltianguis cursive script box cancels, Chalchicomula on 1r blue eagle pair, Chalchihuites, red Chiguagua/Chihuahua stampless, superb Coapilla box cancel 1874, fancy 'roses of Cordoba' in black and blue, etc. Then a group of mining settlements covers with El Jaral Grande on 1868 6cts imperf block of four, as well as El Oro on 2x 6cts perf pairs and 12cts green pair all from a correspondence, followed by large Guanacevi box cancels in both black and red on stampless covers, Huatusco, Irapuato, wonderful Lagos fancy cancel with manuscript date on 2r orange eagle, Matehuala red straight line 1851, Monte Morelos 1854 and a series of Morelia cds cancels with inserted dates on 1856 Hidalgos. Then Nombre de Dios, Nazas on 1843 stampless and on #1 pair with enormous margins, Pachuca, Papasquiaro 1853, red Parras of 1851, magnificent large circular Sahuayo (Morelia) tying 1856 2r green, small oval Salvatierra of 1870, octagonal San Andres Tuxtla and San Juan del Rio cancels, San Cristobal stampless, Sayula, Silad, Sombrerete straight lines on stampless and 1856 1r orange pair, then Tabasco, Taretan octagonal tying 1868 50cts black on yellow perf, large straight line Teotitlan of 1874 and blue octagonal italic Tequila tying 1856 2r emerald, followed by Tesiutlan/Teziutlan from 1856 onwards, Toluca type of 1857, then a very rare if not unique usage of 2r green Queretaro district used in 1857 from Yrapuato (Guanajuato) with superb box cancel, etc, etc. This is an extraordinary array of scarce usages. It is essential to view this lot, as this description is only an outline. Please study photoplates to get a flavor of what is here.

5765 ogO   imageMEXICO, 1879/83 THE JUAREZ AND NUMERAL ISSUES ACCUMULATION.

A phenomenal mint and used accumulation from a recently unearthed hoard, with well over 1200 stamps from the 1879 and 1882 Benito Juarez issues and the 1882/83 numeral series, all cherry picked from collections over several decades and crammed in a substantial old stockbook, yet with hardly any duplication as it has been painstakingly organised by district numbers, accompanied by the write-up in the margins. This is a wonderfully intense accumulation with a spectacular variety of usages, shades and errors and the more you look the more you find. Just taking into account the basic Scott listings we counted no less than a dozen of the 85cts violet on thick paper (#129) with genuine postal cancelations used from Veracruz, Hermosilla, scarce and superb Tuxpan, Orizava box cancel, double Colima o/p, etc. Then the scarce higher denominations on thin papers with 2x 25cts rose with Merida and Mexico o/ps, 2x 50cts yellow used from Veracruz and Mexico, 2x 100cts black also used from Veracruz and Mexico and the 100cts orange with 2 used examples and 7 mint including an eye-catching never hinged pair with three Merida o/ps at varying angles! Also seen are Orizava blue o/ps on 100cts black thick paper mint strip of three and used single and Tehuacan pink o/ps on thin paper 50cts yellow and 100cts orange mint - a beautiful pair of stamps. On the district numbers there are many errors including double numbers, wide spacings of the numerals, incorrect numbers, numbers printed on reverse, etc. Also there are numbers present which have extremely low printings in their own right such as '782' on 85cts used with only 100 printed, 25cts thick paper with '1182' Tabasco o/p of which only 25 printed (signed), scarce Tacubaya range, unlisted '2283' on 50cts green thin paper with large blue Orizaba o/p, '3279' on pen-canceled 50cts violet on thick paper with only 25 printed and '4100's numbers with printings of 50 or 100, including an extraordinary 85cts mint block of six showing '4182'. Other highlights include Tampico on 50cts green thin paper block of four used, Campeche and Chihuahua o/ps on same stamp with different numbers in red and black, double impression on 24cts violet, a major re-entry on 12cts brown with jumbo margins, etc., as well as unusual postmarks inc. blue star on 24cts violet (signed), French paquebot cancels inc. red octagonal on 5cts orange (signed) and another on piece bearing 12cts brown with '5438' for '5483' error, etc. One of the best holdings of this issue we've ,offered and is an absolutely invaluable opportunity for the specialist of these issues. Must be inspected as this description only scrapes the surface, please study the photoplates.

5766 ogO   imageMEXICO EXCITING CLASSICS COLLECTION.

An exciting and important vintage collection of several hundred 19th century stamps. The collection runs chronologically from the #1 through to Hidalgos of the 1870s, with highly specialised material with particular attention to the districts and the quotas sent, with the quality exceptional virtually throughout. Beginning with well over 200 imperf Hidalgos, replete with superb items, including huge margins medio real blue (#1) with blue straight line postmark and blue Apam o/p, Apotlan box cancels on block of four with Guadalajara o/ps, 1r yellow (#2) inc. complete Acayucan lozenge cancel on Veracruz pair, followed by the 2r green (#3) with a severely cracked plate example and good shades, as well as rare Huatusco straight line cancel with only 100 2r stamps sent for use in that district. Then the 4r red (#4) with an impressive showing of a dozen examples inc. sidewalk margins copy showing rare Tabasco o/p with fancy cancel, apparently absent from the otherwise encyclopedic Larranaga collection, a superb stamp with Chalco o/p, an enormous margined bisect tied on piece and a superb example of the 1867 italic Mexico o/p (#39. Scott retail $3250), one of the scarcest Hidalgo issues, accompanied by Soekema signature. Next is the 8r with red lilac shade mint (#5) and violet shade x2 used (#5a) plus a neatly pen-canceled example with magnificent margins all round (signed twice), again all select copies as is the norm for this collection. The 1861 Hidalgos have many more good items, however for the sake of brevity we note many attractive 4r and 8r values including three each of the 8r black on red and green on brown, as well as bisects on piece. Then follows the 1864/66 eagles, seldom seen in such depth, with highlights including medio real lilac type V mint and used (#20c, cat. $3000 for used and unpriced for mint) and the gray lilac shade (#20f) in scarce mint block of four, 1r ultra without o/p mint pair, 2r deep orange early plate without o/p mint (#23c), 8r red type I used (#25b), etc. The collection continues with 1866 Maximilians litho and engraved, 1867 italic Mexico o/ps inc. superb used 8r black on red brown (#40), 1868 Hidalgos with many 100cts inc. brown on black thin numerals imperf and perf used (#51, #57), excellent 'Anotado' o/ps inc. 6cts imperf used (#71) and both 12cts imperf and 25cts perf on covers to the same addressee, then 1872 Hidalgos with watermarked 100cts gray lilac imperf superb used (#86), etc, etc. There is also classic back of the book with postally used porte de mar issues and then interesting non-Scott listed. Viewing is essential here as there will be far more to discover. Please see the photoplates to get an idea of the considerable depth of this old-time collection, quite remarkable in its scope.

5767 c   imageMEXICO 19TH CENTURY POSTAL HISTORYAn important range of 19th century postal history with well over 130 covers from stampless to the 1890s, representing unusual items put aside by a Mexican specialist several decades ago. Starting with scarce 'Paid at Vera Cruz' crowned circle handstamp on stampless cover 13th April 1850 to Philadelphia with red Mexico cds, blue 'ship' and large blue Alabama cds  ,(£,900+ by Gibbons), followed by another rare cover bearing the 1876 50cts Campeche provisional (#3, Scott retail for used single $4500) for the rate from the Yucatan to Mexico City, tied by Hecelchakan oval postmark, the cover has a horizontal crease affecting the stamp, however these issues are hardly ever seen especially this particular denomination on cover. Then more than two dozen imperf Hidalgo covers inc. 2r franking to Cuba with attractive 'Indias' postmark, 1/2r blue #1 strip of four on cover of 1857 to Puebla, 4r red on yellow covers, 2r green with plate crack on cover, leading on to eagles inc. superb San Felipe cancel with central crown and manuscript date, 1868 Hidalgos with multiples inc. strip of 3 12cts green to New York with manuscript 'Vapor "Cleopatra"' and 'steamship' postmark min, correspondences on the 1868 and 1872 Hidalgos, unusual 'B.6' and 'B.8' circular cancels, Toluca and Mexico o/ps on 1872 perf 12cts on same cover re-directed, Guadalajara 1874/80 12cts with double perfs top and bottom tied by red cancel and 'postmen should not ask for tips' endorsement etc. Then follows a wonderful range of 1884 Hidalgos and 1886 numerals covers, with three-color frankings inc. on all-over illustrated official stationery to the Mexican consul in Hamburg, 10cts orange numeral used from Colima to Mexico City with purple 'despues en la hora - Col.' and falta de porte stamp with manuscript value entered and canceled by pen cross-hatching. Another stunning cover is  ,to the German secretary of posts with red official embossing and franking of ten numeral issues making a 51cts registered rate, etc. There is also excellent postal stationery including an exceptional 5cts blue numeral issue with denomination printed inverted, yet used to San Francisco as well as other Wells, Fargo and Hidalgo express covers on both numeral issues and 1890s, again from a correspondence. An exciting lot, please study the photoplates to appreciate how good a range is here and its potential importance after further research. (Photo) (Image 1) 7,500-10,000

5769 ogO   imageMEXICO, AN OLD-TIME CLASSICS HORDE.

A fabulous holding, crammed with several hundred classic stamps, the vast majority being imperf Hidalgos and eagles through to the 1860s and 1870s, as well as a selection of back of the book. Eight of the book's pages are filled with hundreds of the imperf Hidalgos, replete with good 4 reales and 8 reales issues including lots of bisects. Though intense, this accumulation is highly organised by the district names and numbers from Apam onwards, being the working mine for the excellent collection on gilt-edged pages also offered in this auction, with much in superb quality. This will take a long time to go through properly but a some of the highlights seen are Aguascalientes on 4r black on yellow bisect tied to piece, Chiapas on 4r black on yellow and 8r black on red brown both mint with enormous margins, Guanajuato on superb 4r red pair and on 4r red bisect tied on two sides to piece by superb strike of ornamental cds cancel, followed by eagle over wreath fancy cancel of Guanajuato on 2r green, through to the various types of Mexico o/ps including 2 examples of the 8r violet and 6 examples of the 8r green on red brown. Then following Morelia and Oajaca o/ps on 4r black on yellow, both with large margins and the former signed, leading on to Saltillo on 2r emerald and 8r quadrisect tied on piece, S.L.Potosi on 8r green on red brown mint, Tabasco on 4r black on yellow signed, Veracruz on unused 4r black on yellow and 8r violet used, Victoria on 4r red superb used pair, through to Zacatecas on 8r black on red brown and on 4r red bisect and 3x 8r black on red brown quadrisects, all tied on piece. The 1864/66 eagles and 1866 Maximilians are also fascinating with attractive 8r red eagle type I noted with blue cds cancels, used 7cts litho Maximilians, etc., then the 1868 Hidalgos before returning to the first issues with a section of unidentified material including mint high values, yet further bisects, etc, followed by the italic Mexico o/ps of 1867 with scarce 1/2r black on buff with 2 examples used and 8r green on red brown used, etc. Much more to inspect including more than 20 Guadalajara locals, 1899 series top three values with Muestra o/ps, etc. This book has lain untouched for several decades, completely uncataloged and offered intact as received. An exciting opportunity as no doubt many ore discoveries await the patient viewer, please study photoplates to get a flavor of what is here.

5770 O   MEXICO CLASSICS COLLECTION.

3 old fashioned homemade albums, somewhat battered at the edges, with well over 1000 stamps, mint and used representing a study of the Hidalgo types, #A9 to #A14 as listed in Scott, for the years 1874 through 1883. Particularly impressive is the way this collector has organised, the different o/ps by the different district names, written-up accordingly with items that the specialist will recognise. These 3 albums house a very fascinating and complicated specialisedcollection. Some of the different areas chosen at random &ndash, listed page for page by these districts, including Aguascalientes, Chiapas, Chihuahua, , through to Lagos, Matamoros, Merida, Morelia, Monterrey, Moratavio, Parral, Queretaro, Tulancingo, Tabasco, through to Zamora. Every denomination is represented and the condition is excellent throughout. The collection was formed many decades ago and occasionally the collector indicates what he considers to be better material, such as red vertical Durango o/ps, vertical Guadalajara o/p, without date, long block capital Guadalajara in black, as well as stamps with re-entries, double frames, dates without districts, etc. There are also interesting examples placed under different districts, without the district name but the date and the postmark. Also, many other better items with color cancels, partial imperfs on Aguascalien, double o/ps, errors of dates, again well written-up by the collector of this advanced collection. There is so much here to research that the expert will appreciate. An exciting original lot to delight the Mexican specialist.

5777 ogO   imageMEXICO, 1868 HIDALGO ISSUES SPECIALIZED COLLECTION.

Wonderful specialised collection of the 1868 Hidalgos from a recently unearthed hoard of Mexico, with well over 400 stamps written-up on quadrille pages. The collection deals with each denomination in turn with particular emphasis on superb and scarce postmarks, many on strips, blocks and on cover. The 6cts back on buff issue begins the collection with Tlacotalpam box on thin 6cts strip of four, Tecolotlan on thick figures strip of four and different district names inc. Ures mint. Then the 12cts black on green with cancels including Altotonga, fancy Santa Maria Tlapacoyan wreath cancels on pair and highly unusual complete example on strip of three, also Zacatecas on superb pair on cover, as well as extensive district o/ps inc. blue Matamoros, extremely scarce Tula, etc. Then follows the in-depth study of the 25cts blue with an excellent range of districts including Huejutla, Tabasco and scarce 'Tula et Tampico', plus lots of fabulous postmarks including clear examples from small sub-offices not priced in the Schimmer specialised listing, leading on to the 50cts black on yellow with 11 examples inc. perf, imperf, thin and thick figures, missing stops and thick papers, again all categorised by usage and the 100cts black on brown inc. thin figures imperf used at Mazatlan, three examples of the thick figures 100cts imperfs on thin paper and the perf issue without stop after value used at Mexico. This is an impressive collection built from better material put aside over the lifetime of a philatelist several decades ago, with some important items that would be extremely difficult to find again today. A distinct opportunity for the Mexico specialist. Please see the photoplates to get an appreciation of this collection.
