1854-59, Perkins Bacon archive sheet of 20 proof examples of the Garter 6d value, all showing waxed corners to avoid re-usage, arranged on the sheet in 4 vertical rows of 5 each in four different colours, except the 1st horizontal row all other 4 rows showing treatment with different chemicals to see if obliterations could be removed, each of the chemical treated proofs with manuscript 'Fisher'. The Royal Post office (and Rowland Hill) were nearly obsessed with the idea of possible Postal Fraud (which included removal of ink and postmarks). Being a British Commonwealth rarity this proof sheet would serve as an important addition to a specialised NSW exhibit collection resp. Commonwealth collection. Note: similar NSW Perkins proof sheets (of usually 5 proofs each) fetched in recent auctions over the last years always around 3000-4000 GBP/€/CHF Provenance: E. R. 1856-1912 used collection written up on pages, some early imperfs with 2d used x 6 and 2 x 6d, the rouletted issue with 1d, 2 x 2d and 2 x 6d unused and an attractive range from the 1860 series with 10 each of 1d and 2d mint or unused. A fine range of used also with shades and postmarks, similarly with numerous coverage of the 1868 and 1876 issue. The 1902-6 'Postage' types used are well represented, as are the 'O.S.' 1853-1912 comprehensive collection on pages in a binder which commences with the 1853 1d (poor) and 8 x 4d (cut to shape or defective, useful for study purposes), then includes the 1855 Large Star series with 2 x 2d and 8 x 4d used, then the 1857 series with 1d x 7 mint or unused, 30 or so used, 14 x 2d and 25 x 4d (an excellent range of shades here). Thereafter, extensive coverage of the 1863-71 issue to 1/- (with plenty mint or unused), then the later sets, mostly used, but again, with mint included.
