 Rodrigues Island 1895/99: Mauritius 18 c. green & ultramarine, a single example used on 1901
registered cover to Port Louis tied by fair "RODRIGUES" cds (April 16) in black with "REGISTERED / No. 52" at left and oval "Registered / Mauritius" arrival (April 24) in red. Carried by the vessel "Chocolate Girl" under the annual contract with the
Mauritian Government. A very rare usage from this small island - in 1843 the population was just 250 people. (Image 1) (Image 2)

 1900/05: 6 c. purple & carmine on red, used on 18 April 1907 cover from Pamplemousses to
Boksburg then on to Johannesburg, Transvaal but the addressee not found. Eventually forwarded, in red manuscript, to "Fomboni, (Island of) Moheli, Comoro Islands via Zanzibar" and sent via Lourenco Marques with ambulant (May 15) and thence by steamer
to Dar es Salaam (June 4) and Zanzibar (June 28). Carried by French steamer "Melbourne" to Mayotte (July 2) and thence to Moheli with blue arrival (July 4). Rare. (Image 1) (Image 2)

1866 cover from Port Louis to Batavia, Netherlands East Indies tied by "B53" obliterators in black. "10d." handstamp in red applied alongside the adhesives (10d. to GB, 2d. to Mauritius, 2d. to France). Mauritius despatch cds (May 7) and Batavia

 Incoming Mail 1853: Entire letter from Madras to Mauritius endorsed "per Screw str.
Mauritius", struck on despatch with fine MADRAS / GPO datestamp (March 31) and curved "INDIA PAID" in red, prepaid with "1/-" in red manuscript. Superb strike of oval framed "PACKET LETTER / MAURITIUS" in black (May 16) of arrival. The "Mauritius"
was a ship of the General Screw Shipping Co., whose service ran from Plymouth via the Cape to Mauritius.rnNote: In 1850 the company secured the contract to carry the monthly mail between Plymouth and Cape Town for £ 30,000 a year.rnFollowing
this, orders were placed with C.J. Mare and Company at Leamouth, London for new ships Queen of the South, Lady Jocelyn, Indiana, Calcutta, Mauritius and Hydaspes. In May 1852 an additional mail contract was secured, for the company to provide a
monthly service between England and Madras and Calcutta, via Cape St. Vincent, Ascension Island, St. Helena, Cape Town, Mauritius and Ceylon. (Image 1) (Image 2)
