6015		AUSTRIA, Offices in the Levant, 1869 Thomas B. Morton & Co. Letter Post, Salonica (Greece) to Genoa, Italy. T.B. Morton & Co. "FRANCO" handstamp seal adhering (faults), "Salonich 31 Aout" origin cancel on partial folded cover (missing bottom flap) to Genoa, red "D.A.a.L." handstamp, Semlin (where it was disinfected), Vienna (8/9) and Genoa (11 Sept.) backstamps FINE. ONE OF ONLY TWO EXAMPLES OF THIS ISSUE KNOWN ON COVER. An item of exceptional rarity as there are only two known examples recorded (the other being a full cover). Thomas B. Morton & Co. was a mail boat company that operated from 1867-72 with headquarters at Constantinople and Kustendje. Mail was given to them after the departure of Lloyd ships as they only called weekly. Ex Steindler. Signed Sloane. Single of Turkey 10pa Green tied to postcard of Ragusa (also known as Dubrovnik) by violet "Agenzia Del Lloyd Austriaco/Sayada" handstamp to Corfu, manuscript Jan. 1, 1904 address on front, stamp with perf toning FINE. A MAJOR RARITY OF THE AUSTRIAN LLOYD AGENCY. ONLY A TINY NUMBER WITH THIS HANDSTAMP EXIST FROM SAYADA. Sayada is a small village which had a population of 1,000 to 2,000 residents who were mostly illiterate which is one major reason for the scarcity of items originating from here.
