6012		AUSTRIA, Offices in the Levant, 1855 Pontelagoscuro (Italy) to Ferrara, Italy. Single (four margins) of Roman States, 1852, 1b Black on Grey Green, First Setting (2) tied to cover by a grid cancel with corresponding "Ponte Lagoscuro/8 Dec 55" circular datestamp on folded cover to Ferrara, bold blue "Agenzia del Lloyd Austriaco/Ponte Lagoscuro" oval handstamp VERY FINE. ONE OF THE RAREST LLOYD AUSTRIACO MARKINGS. Opened between the years of 1852-59, this Lloyd Austriaco route used the River Po and provided service between Trieste and Polesella to Lago Maggiore. This particular marking came from the Agency based near Ferrara. With 1992 E. 6013		AUSTRIA, Offices in the Levant, 1858 Piacenza (Italy) to Borgo San Domino, Italy. Single (margins large to just in at right) of Parma, 1852, 15c Black on Pink (3) tied to folded letter by "Piacenza/22 Ott 58" circular datestamp to Borgo san Domino, strong blue "Agenzia del Lloyd Austriaco/Piacenza" oval handstamp VERY FINE AND UNIQUE. THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THE PIACENZA LLOYD AUSTRIACO HANDSTAMP. First recorded by Edwin Mueller in the Mercury Stamp Journal (No. 49, Feb. 1959, pg. 19). This particular Agency was established in 1852 for Lloyd Austriaco ships that sailed along the River Po to link mails from Trieste to Lago Maggiore. This cover also helps support Tchilinghirian's notion that these cancels serve the purpose of despatch or arrival markings for mail that is handled by the Lloyd Austriaco Agency. Signed A.
