5c Red Brown (1). Large to huge margins, fresh color
and detailed impression, perfectly tied by greenish blue "Richmond & Ptrsbg. R.R. Jul. 3" (1850) route agent's circular datestamp on folded letter addressed to Petersburg, Va. EXTREMELY FINE. A SUPERB 5-CENT 1847 RAILROAD COVER. EASILY
ONE OF THE FINEST KNOWN. On the back of this cover, Philip H. Ward wrote "Possibly the finest 1847 5¢ Railroad cover." We concur with Ward's assessment. The USPCS census lists only two 1847 covers with this route agent's datestamp and
this is quite obviously the finer of the two. Ex Ackerman, Rust, Boker and Gross. Signed Ashbrook. With 2019 P.F. certificate. (Image) Search for comparables at SiegelAuctions.com

5c Red Brown (1). Vertical pair, huge margins to just
touched at bottom right including large top sheet margin, tied by light strikes of red grid cancel, matching "Albany N.Y. Feb. 27" circular datestamp with fleurons on orange-buff envelope to Buffalo N.Y. FRESH AND VERY FINE DOUBLE-WEIGHT
USE OF A PAIR OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE. THE TOP STAMP IS A GEM. The top stamp in this pair is an Extremely Fine Gem that would certainly grade XF-Superb 95 Jumbo as an off-cover single. We are not encouraging the vandals, but simply advising
bidders to consider the potential SMQ value of $2,500.00 for the top stamp. Ex Eubanks. With 2002 and 2017 P.F. certificates (Image) Search for comparables at SiegelAuctions.com
