338   Image10c Brown, H. Grill (139). Clearly-defined grill with almost all points visible, face-free strike of New York Foreign Mail cancel, radiant color, unusually wide and balanced margins

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. AN ABSOLUTELY STUNNING USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1870 10-CENT NATIONAL BANK NOTE COMPANY H GRILL. THIS PHENOMENAL STAMP IS GRADED SUPERB 98 BY P.S.E. -- THE HIGHEST AWARDED AND ONE OF TWO TO ACHIEVE THIS GRADE.

This issue is normally found with small margins and very few visible grill points. The margins on the example offered here are exceptionally wide, the perfs are long and full all around, it has wonderful color and a clear grill, and a face-free cancel. This may well be the finest in existence.

Ex Bowman. With 1972 A.P.S., 1999 P.F. and 2008 and 2015 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98; SMQ $13,000.00). This issue is very difficult to obtain in higher grades, as only five others grade higher than 90. The example offered here, at Superb 98, is the highest grade awarded and one of only two to achieve it (Image)

339   Image12c Dull Violet, H. Grill (140). Perfectly centered with extraordinarily wide and balanced margins, fresh color not typically seen on this stamp which is often encountered pale and faded, sharp impression, clearly defined grill points, neat 3-ring target cancel

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE STAMP TO FIND IN SUCH OUTSTANDING CONDITION -- GREAT COLOR, WELL-CENTERED AND HUGE MARGINS -- A SUPERB EXAMPLE OF THE 1870 12-CENT NATIONAL BANK NOTE COMPANY GRILLED ISSUE. EASILY ONE OF THE FINEST EXAMPLES ATTAINABLE, GRADED XF 90 BY THE P.S.E.

Ex Sheriff and Dr. Hinrichs. With 1971 P.F. certificate as a pair, 1986 and 2001 P.F. certificates and 2016 P.S.E. certificate (XF 90; SMQ $8,000.00). This is the highest grade recorded and the only example at this grade--the next highest is VF-XF 85. (Image)

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. AN ABSOLUTELY STUNNING USED EXAMPLE OF THE 15-CENT NATIONAL BANK NOTE COMPANY GRILLED ISSUE, GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 JUMBO BY P.S.E. -- THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED.

With 1958 P.F. and 2012 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95 Jumbo; SMQ $9,250.00). This is the highest grade awarded and it is shared by only one other. A Power Search review shows how difficult this issue is to find in such choice used condition. The highest grade we have offered in one of our auctions is 90, back in 2012 (Image)

342   Image30c Black, H. Grill (143). Intense shade and impression, gorgeous centering with well-proportioned margins, neat strike of quartered cork cancel

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A BEAUTIFUL USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1870 30-CENT NATIONAL BANK NOTE COMPANY GRILLED ISSUE. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST DIFFICULT DENOMINATIONS TO OBTAIN IN SUCH CHOICE CONDITION.

The 30c National Bank Note Co. Grilled Issue is normally seen with small margins, or is off-center. If one finds a centered copy, it more often than not turns out to have a small flaw. The stamp offered here is truly the exception to the rule.

With 1997 and 2007 P.F. certificates (VF-XF 85). By way of comparison, P.S.E. has graded two at 90 and one at 85. (Image)
