N.C.; franked with a U.S. 3¢ rose tied by a New York target duplex, May 8 [1862]; entered the C.S.A. mails at Petersburg, Va. with a blue May 23 Petersburg c.d.s. and matching "DUE" (type H) & "5" (type J); enclosure, datelined "14th June 1862 Castle Williams Fort Columbus, N.Y.H.", mentions Dr. Kirkman's son, a fellow prisoner, in part, "Trusting this will find you and family well as it leaves me and Preston enjoying tolerable health.", Very Fine.
