1050 cover 1934.0712 image1934 (July 12), USS Macon Training Flight cover, franked by 10¢ Map and tied by Sunnyvale, Calif. duplex, with purple cachet of the Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce, across which is written (printed?) "First Flight with Commander Wiley"; this was the training flight during which the Macon located the ships Houston and New Orleans (the former carrying President Roosevelt on a secret trip to Hawaii); having found the ships, the Macon's Sparrowhawk planes dropped newspapers and magazines to the President, near Very Fine.
