1895-97, Mail Transportation, 1c Letter Carrier Bradbury, Wilkinson Sample Stamp (Scott 242 var.), the word "Prueba" (Proof) is worked into the design diagonally in the upper left corner; full imperf sheet of 96 in orange brown on thin wove paper with ornamental borders; the sheet has been folded - two horizontal folds and three vertical - with slight splitting along the folds and minor edge tears; nonetheless, an attractive and very rare sheet, ungummed.

The stamps, despite the inscription "Prueba", are, in fact, Bradbury, Wilkinson samples to demonstrate the quality of their work to the Mexican Government. They were produced after the 1895 Mail Transportation set had already been issued. Apparently the Mexican Government was impressed, because they awarded Bradbury, Wilkinson the printing contracts for the 1899-1910 pictorial issues. (Image) (Image2)

1895-97, Mail Transportation, 1c Letter Carrier Bradbury, Wilkinson Sample Stamp (Scott 242 var.), the word "Prueba" (Proof) is worked into the design diagonally in the upper left corner; irregular imperf 30 in black on thin card with ornamental borders; the lower left pair has been rejoined, the left stamp torn nearly in two; there is a horizontal crease through the bottom row and two vertical creases in the middle, one through the 6th column and one between the 6th & 7th columns, and the bottom margin is creased with small edge tears.
